Default Weather Conditions 12-09-09

HUGE STORM UPDATE

So far, it is very very tough to tell. I have a few 2'/3' drifts around, but I also have the same level of snow in areas where the wind cleaned things up.

One thing is for certain - HUGE WINDS. There will be trees down on the trail for sure. We are getting some good wet snow, but I am going to hold off on amounts until things calm down and I can get out. I hear town is pretty much shut down, and there is over 200 local schools that are closed today.

Stay tuned for more info...

Brother called and just arrived at camp with sleds after a hairy ride UP and I am out of work at noon tomorrow. A week later than last year, but we will be riding tomorrow .

Just got back from the groomer. Don't get too excited, I finished up the brushing on the town trail. I will say one thing, that flail mower makes a good snowblower! Everything is brushed back nice, so Wink & Griz can't complain about branches on the Mackinac Bridge Trail.

We have about 8" of new snow in Iggy, and I am told 10" in Moran, Brevort & TL. The groomer is going out at first light to pan the core system. Will will pan everything down from the weekend and then take it from there.

There will be good, not ideal, but good riding this weekend.

Todd, we were up north this weekend too (still here). Gaylords trails are pathetic to say the least! Once we got up to indian river it was really nice and even with a lack of snow around Alanson, their trails were in decent shape too. Overall it has been a good weekend other than gaylord's waste of time groomers. I will never run through here again because this is the third year in a row with the same garbage. How was your ride?

Hi SSJ,

We dropped in Indian River DNR lot and headed west to Alanson, then north thru Pellston with a brief detour to play a bit. We checked and there was about 18 inches of snow on the level there by the airport. Continued north to Mackinac City. Stopped at the KeyHole to have some lunch, then headed down to Cheboygan. All trails so far had been groomed and were flat. Snow was a bit thinner around Mac City.

Crossed the bridge in Cheboygan and headed towards Black Mtn area. Trails were not groomed, but they weren't too bad, we've had a lot worse...a few wet spots that needed to freeze up b4 they could groom....

Took side roads back down to Onaway, holey moley did they have the snow! The most snow of anywhere we rode saturday. Hopped on the grade and headed back north to Cheboygan, made a quick detour to check Skeet's cabin, this trail was groomed all the way. A bit of gravel was mixed in the snow in a couple spots, but overall nice conditions.

Took the new trail back down to Indian River, met the groomer about half way. 35 mph for 11 miles so this isn't a fast ride....this one was flat, too.

We headed south on the grade out of Indian River where Gaylord takes over the grooming, and you are right, that couple miles was whooped out.

So about 160 miles total for the day, not bad. I'd say 8 stars outta 10.

I have a couple pics I'll post 2nite.

We rode from Moran to Cut River last weekend. All was pretty good except for a little part out of Brevort on the truck trail were it was plowed, but other than that it was pretty good. Then Saturday night we rode to Trout Lake, it warmed up a little Saturday and the railroad bed was starting to get a little thin in places.

Yup stuck bad. Yup lost control , the ditch just pulled me down in.

No did not get all kittywampus from trail side hotdogs.

Yup 15 feet from the end of driveway.

Shortest ride of my riding career. But I will rebound and ride a few 1000 miles this season.

Check out www.gaylord.net and read the front page. Apparently I wasn't the only one complaining!
