Default Trail Conditions 2-01-16

Welcome to February. Glad to see January (and December for that matter) go. Maybe a new month will bring new luck on the weather department. I could look back at the weekend, tell you that it was pretty good riding on Saturday, and Sunday went to crap. Could tell you that we haven't groomed since Thursday evening because of the temps. Could tell you that it rained all day Sunday at 40 degrees, and was still 35d at 10 pm last night. Could tell you that we have lost at least 1/2 of our off trail snow, lots of the trails are in tough shape, and there is not a lick of ice anywhere on the big lake.

I could tell you all of that, but lets put January behind us, and look ahead. Things finally got colder this morning, and the water is starting to crunch up some. We will be running the groomers tonight in preparation of a decent storm expected to bulls-eye the EUP tomorrow night. Very early predictions have calmed down some, (1-2 ft of snow was never gonna happen this winter) but the local forecast is finally calling for a solid 5-6" in our area, with 8" easily possible. The dream forecasters are calling for 12"+ and the dumb weather channel still saying 1-3". Boil all that down, and lets say we should get the 6" and I will be quite happy with that if it is decent system snow.

So, for the trails conditions before the storm, wet, icy and snow in the woods. Other then that, lets just wait for the storm and look ahead to some good news.

WARNING:Many of you know that pond hockey in St. Ignace is coming up in a few weeks. Mother nature has not cooperated at all, consequently the organizers may be building rinks around and North of the Ice Rink in St. Ignace. PLEASE STAY OFF any are being prepped for hockey, it is a huge deal in this town, and it is going to be tough to pull it off as it is, without people trashing the rinks during construction. The rinks may be partially built onto the trail North of the Ice rink. There will be a very short re-route around and in-between the rinks, please follow the barrels and STAY ON TRAIL!!!!!

Local weather is putting us in the 3-6" range. National is in the 6-8" range.

Fun starts at sundown today, and should be over by morning.

The snow begins - right on schedule.

Forecast is jumping all over the place.

Place your bets on the amounts now!

Hoping for the best. Did it rain all the way up into Trout Lake and north? We plan on coming Friday morning to ride from St Ignace to the Falls. Lets say if you got 6 inches of snow, would that be enough to make them good again?

Zero Rain here, the first snow is very heavy and wet, about 1" as of 7:45. (2" in moran)

yellow- all our trails were in very good condition this morning, with the exception of the pipeline and moran. The rest only need 2" to be excellent, and the rest will be gravy. 6" should fix everything up good.

Kenny, I told your Red
