Default Trail Conditions 1-11-2016

What a big difference a weekend makes. It rained for 2 days and was 42d on Friday. Temps dropped Saturday night, and it brought some snow. A ton of schools are freaking out about a few inches downstate and are closed, but it doesn't seem that bad to me. By Monday morning the St. Ignace area has 4"+ of new snow and with the cold temps everything should finally be frozen up out there. The issue is all that snow is super light, and is going to pack down to less then 2". Over the next few days we should be over the worst of early season conditions, as the forecast is calling for cold temps all week with a few added inches here and there until the next big question mark, which is Friday/Saturday. Some are forecasting 1-2" of snow Friday & Saturday, the local TV is calling for a rain snow mix across the area. That could setting the snow in and create a perfect base, or just ruin all the work we are putting in. Forecast will get clearer over the next couple days. As of right now, I would say it is time to start making plans on where to go for the coming weekend, make your final decision when you see what Fridays warmup will bring.

Hearing the outer trails did not get as much snow as Iggy. 3" Moran and Epoufette. Only 2" on Brevort Lake Rd.

Our overnight forecast of 1-3" was right around the 1", even though it was a crazy blizzard when I came home last night.

Everything has been lake effect - super fluffy, it isn't going to pack down to much I am afraid. Groomer is on the prowl right now, and should cover the entire system except Cedarville. #6 needs a bearing which will be here on Thursday. Both machines will be running for the weekend.

Thanks for the UPdate, Neil! I'm starting to like you just a little bit more. The Ohio Posse won't be up this weekend, but hopefully conditions will be more ideal by next weekend when we make our initial voyage. We got an inch or better last night and this morning, giving the news people something to talk about. Lot of schools closed today, and I'm sure we'll be hearing about all the accidents on the news tonight.

Well Floyd, I've been told that I am a pretty likable guy.

If you don't think so, then this should help:
Last night Moran got around 3", and the big winner was Epoufette and North, with 7".

Groomer is still chugging through the woods.

Well that's good news. Glad to hear were getting something. It seems like the LES train is kicking in all over UP there. I also see lots of reports of snow in the lower.

I will be UP on Friday and I will be staying for the week so I will be there next weekend to meet my Ohio friends Can't wait to ride with my buddies Wink, Floyd and Sno Pro 7

1-13 update:

More good news from the groomer last night. Dave says that all of the trails are snow covered well, he had zero rocks or dirt showing - with the exception of a portion of the pipeline, which is very thing for a couple miles.

Totals before grooming yesterday, Iggy, Moran had 6", Trout Lake 8", Epoufette and Rexton 10", and 12" in Brevort.
Trail base should be in the 2-4" range.

Bobby said TASA has finally made it to Epoufette (but their Rexton to Trout Lake trail is still swampy)

We are supposed to have a little more Lake Effect today, but not much.

Parking both machines inside to melt off this morning for maintenance tomorrow, and will be running again on Friday.
