Corrupted office file, on-line recovery
Well you guys know that I have a ton of DNR paperwork to do for our grooming reports. I did 27 pages last weekend for this years reports. I think my internet modem downloaded new firmware over the weekend, and messed up a bunch of settings, so a lot of my home network was down, requiring me to transfer files between computers with a thumb drive. I developed a fairly complicated excel spreadsheet to do my calculations for me, and spent a couple hours entering all of the info. Well as my luck would have it, when transferring the file back to my computer with a printer, a chunk of the file was corrupted - and yes it was the only copy I had. Open office would open it, but there was about 1/3 of the info missing. Excel said it was a corrupted file.
I found some help on-line over at www.online.officerecovery.com/
There is an option to upload your file and get a demo file download to see if the data you need is there - (fields replaced with "demo" - but the fields I needed were there)
You can use the service for free, with a 15 day delay, or post up a 'like' or blog for a coupon. The paid service seems reasonable in cost if you have a bunch of files that need repairing - and it seems to work. I'm going to get the file recovered, to save a little bit of my sanity, and I will let you know if all of the data is there!
