Default Trail Conditions 1-29-15

Things are looking good around here. No we do not have 12"+ of base like they have North of here, we are standing at an average of 6" or so, but all of our trails are super-highway flat and in great condition. There are no trail issues to deal with and things are looking fantastic. The forecasted 2-5" for last night did not turn up (thanks Mother Nature AGAIN), but we are on our way to 1" this morning, and that will brighten things up a bit. Off trail is working on about 12" and it seems kind loose, so there is some fun to be had out in the woods, but keep an eye out for stumps and the like, but 2 tracks would be lots of fun right now.

Our groomers are both going to run everyday for the next 14 days except super-bowl Sunday. We are training up some new guys, so will be doing day-time running so the new guys can get their groomer-drivers-ed completed. By the end of February I hope to welcome a bunch of fresh faces to our ranks. Which brings me to introduce... Our new Groomer Driver KEN! He completed his first solo mission out of Brevort yesterday and will be working 2 days a week for us helping Bobby keep the Northern loop in good shape. Welcome aboard Ken!!

Now it is Thursday, and that means trail pic day. I headed out and grabbed a couple of quick pics, and got a little surprise. Found Randy out on a early morning training mission, so you get a bonus groomer pic too!

Enjoy the weekend trails, it is going to be fairly cold, which is making ice for pond hockey pretty well. The cold will firm up the slightly loose trails, and it should be a fantastic weekend ride for all. Have fun and be safe.

Looks fantastic, Neil!!!
Counting down the hours till we point the truck north. Had freezing rain here early this morning, then cloudy. Now it's close to 40 degrees and drizzling. Hope things are uneventful coming UP tonight. We'll likely be going to the casino Saturday night (at least that's the plan for now). If you and the boss are willing to spend some time with us Buckeye nuts come on over. We promise not to rub it in.

Adjacent areas update:

Cedarville is now grooming on a limited basis. They still need more snow, but I have heard they at least have gone through stuff so you should not find any downed trees or anything.

Kinross flooding is under control and that trail back open.
Drummond is still not grooming, need snow to cover rocks.
North of Trout Lake, and West of Rexton, trail are good.

Remember, just because we have a lower base dept then other areas, doesn't mean our trails are no good. Infact, they are all perfectly ridable, and board flat.

The Iggy groomer just returned to report 1" in Iggy, and 3"+ new on the Burma, so we did get at least some of that forecasted snow.

There is ice, no one is crossing. Open water in straits right now and on West side of Island.

If the treeline is put up, then we will let you know.

I drive my truck out to take Thursday Morning Pics.

Unfortunately with the low snow you will occasionally find someone who thinks they can drive the trails. Especially hunters.

Don't worry about that. We are running both groomers every day trying to train the biggest rookie class we have ever had. Turning tracks and training guys making highways.

Your trails are always top notch.

I've said it before but I'll say it again--Straits Area trails are the best maintained and groomed system in the State, and I have ridden just about all of them.

Trails are in great condition. I talked to a guy that rode the Caffey yesterday and he said it was very passable. Have fun and stay safe. Heading out to ride with the Ohio boys today. All of us are going to the casino tonight for some cocktails. Come on out.
