Default Trail Conditions 1-09-2014

FINALLY You may have noticed that I have finally switched from Weather to Trail conditions. Yesterday I saw the very first trail warrior parked in the ice rink lot. Funny how one truck and trailer look so good.

The big storm dropped the low end of amounts in the straits area, resulting in around 4" of new powder. Last evening at times I would venture we were getting snow at a rate of 2-3" per hour as you could not see even 200 feet, but that only lasted a short time, and the snow was pretty much all done by 10pm.

The groomer is in the shop for some maintenance today and will make a coverage run hopefully tonight, but otherwise tomorrow during to the day. There is lots of work to be done out there to prep the trail base. Yes we are a few days behind schedule on that. There is still some slightly bare areas out there, mostly in the open areas, but overall there is over 12" of powder on the trail to ride/work with. Early season conditions are still prevalent for sure, but things are finally looking up around here.

NOTICE:
There is a meeting for all anyone interested in the trails, or becoming a new groomer driver next Thursday at 7pm. It will be at Freds Pub (Bowling alley) and pizza dinner will be provided. Anyone interested in more information is welcome to message me.

Rode from theSuper8 today. Thin at first, to Castle Rock. Castle Rock was good. When the trail turn off Castle Rock, they are logging, maybe 1mile. Just a short 40mile ride today. Darn cold out there.

we rode out of Brevort last Saturday over to Newberry from our cabin.....the trails were actually not bad a little thin but we did notice there were several spots along the caffey truck trail where brushing was done but a lot of debris is hanging into the trail still so please be careful when riding there...huge limbs are sticking out into the trail. I am interested in the meeting....what all our we covering? and by the way are we down to one groomer now...... your message said the groomer is in the shop but we have always had two groomers in the straits area....

Our meeting is just to gauge interest, answer any questions and have some dinner and fun, maybe watch a video to see how it is done. Then later we will schedule individual training and send the guys loose.

Yes we still have 2 groomers, they were both still in Iggy. We had an issue with #5 so it is still in the shop till monday. #6 is out on the prowl, and she will be covering the whole system this weekend. Keep an eye out for it, she will be running most of the time.

I hope #6 is out, because the truck trail and grade into Trout Lake need attention. Roughest two sections today, however Chippewa is great.

Not sure who the responsible party was, but we'll blame it on Griz this time.

Well things were looking up and tails were laying down pretty good. It is definitely thin just North of Iggy on the grade, but passable. All of the powder is packing down to a pretty thin base, but should develop nicely.

We were on pace to have everything covered last night, However the light snow covered up a stump which got hooked on the drag, which ripped the hitch off the groomer. It will be back in Iggy for repair today, but I doubt we will see it on the trail before Monday evening.

Hack of a way to kick off the season. We will get get this cluster organized before next weekend.

Boy I hope so. There's a few "southern boys" coming UP Thursday night who have itchy thumbs. Hopefully Iggy gets a little more snow this week. Would obviously prefer to ride out of town, but will trailer to Castle Rock or Trout Lake if need be.
