Default Weather Conditions 1-02-15

Well folks Happy New Year. New Years in the straits brought a huge wind stop with a little bit of Lake Effect snow to the area. Gusts of 30-40 mph were the norm for 48 hours. Conditions around the EUP still have not changed much. I made a trip to Drummond for NYE and between Iggy and Drummond there was very little to zero snow on the ground for the whole trip. Now after the big NYE blow areas did see some accumulation, but we are talking 1-2" total, not enough to ride on yet. The only good thing is that we now have some frost into the ground, so any snow that we get will stay.

Local riding out of Iggy is not possible. The Club has not turned a track for even 1 mile yet this season - the big green machines are parked and waiting. I have heard about some people riding out of Trout Lake (very thin snow) and also that TASA has made some grooming trips to Rexton. There is more snow there, but still not enough for us to justify running up to them, and I have not heard about TASA coming South of Rexton to Epoufette or Trout Lake.

The forecast is calling for a fairly major winter storm to hit Michigan over the late weekend. Rain far downstate giving away to snow in Northern Michigan. 2 days ago the UP-EUP was going to be hammered, now they are pushing it further downstate to the Gaylord area. I don't think we will know how much we will get until Sunday for sure, but the different models are settling in on 2-3" for our area. Still not sure if that is enough to start running or not, it will depend on the water content of the snow - and it is supposed to be good system snow.

November gave us over 30" of snow in our coverage area. December took it all away with warm temps and rain days. After last season it is hard to believe, but we are still in a holding pattern around here.

We rode out of Trout lake on Thurs and went to Strongs paradise silver creek then the back road down to Hulbert and back home. It's a bit thin out of Trout lake but no rocks or dirt. Friday we rode out of Rexton and headed through Newberry and up to Grand Maris. Again a bit thin out of Rexton but Tass is grooming it and I passed the groomer on the way back last night. Once you get to Newberry there's plenty we snow. All the seasons roads are covered and good also with that rain there's a nice ice base under.

Got some fresh snow here in town yesterday and last night. Still not enough but going in the right direction. It's snowing pretty good right now.

Wondering if there is an weather update to this latest post?
We are coming up next weekend and really DON"T want to go to Newberry.
Any word if Tasa has gone to Cut river or Trout lake yet?
