Default Weather Conditions 11-12-14

A huge pacific hurricane slammed Alaska and then swept its way through Canada and into the midwest. Marquette and others in the UP were/are expected to break 3-day snow total amount records standing since 2007. So far they have over 2 feet of snow up there, and along Superior it isn't pretty that is for sure. Some of that got into the EUP, and the Northern lower, but really only a little in our area. Iggy just got a trace, and by the time you get to Trout Lake, you are looking at 1-3" or so.

The ground isn't really frozen yet, so I don't expect this to stay around, except for the fact that they are predicting temps 10-15d below normal for the next 10 days. Highs in the lower 30s will freeze things up, and I would expect that unless we see an Indian summer at the end of November, it looks like we are starting our season!

OK, so just trace amounts here in Iggy, a few inches North of town, but the Soo got 9" yesterday, with 6" in 5 hours! Houghton, Marquette and Ishpeming areas got 2-3 feet! Looks like our first groomer run was Dec 17th last year, will we beat that date this year? Forecast is calling for sub 32d temps for the next 10 days, that will get our frost into the ground, then we just need a good dumping to get things going. Ski hills just South of us are making snow like crazy and talking about a pre-thanksgiving open. Boy that seems early!
It has been a cold fall for sure, it was last year too and look at the kind of winter we had. Are we in for another epic freeze?

Don't know if things are ridable in the Soo yet, but they got their 3rd most 24hr snowfall. 21" on the ground up there, thin down here. Superior lake effect is a fickle thing for sure.

Well... It's beginning to look a lot like... SNOWMOBILE SEASON! At least around here. Woke up to a fresh 3-4" of the stuff we love to see this time of year. The weather app on my phone is showing a Lake Effect Advisory in effect today and tomorrow with the heaviest band from Brevort to Hessel.
Looks like things are shaping UP for hopefully an early December ride.
Keeping our fingers crossed anyway.

From the NWS reports, Moran reported 24" snowfall last night?
