Default Pats Ride has changed

Hello Everyone,

Just in case anyone had planned on riding with us this weekend. I have decided to move the ride to Newberry on Saturday the 28th. We will still meet at the Voyager Inn at 8am and then trailer up to Picklemans and meet around 9am. The ride will bring us up the the Tahquamenon Falls for lunch, and then head northwest up to Lake Superior and back south. We will then head back to St. Ignace for our party at Timmy Lee's around 7pm.

Please feel free to join us on the ride or stop in at Timmy's for some "fish stories".

As many of you may know I am a big supporter of the area and the Straits Area Trails. I did my best to keep the group in the area but due to the conditions I lost about 15 riders, and found myself forced to move the ride north or cancel it all together. I picked north.

Sorry to stops I had planned for the weekend and I will certainly make it up to you on another ride.

Ride was a HUGE success! Thanks to all that attended. 34 Riders, tons of fun, and a great party at Timmy Lee's!

Congrats on the success. Nice to see that people are finding a place to ride. Kind of a bummer we didn't get the snow 2 days earlier so people could plan the weekend better.

It's been a snow-chasing winter for sure.

Thanks Neil! Funny thing was, we woke up to 6" of fresh snow in St Ignace on Saturday but Rental sleds were already moved to Newberry because of icy trails in the Straits (Safety for the Newbies). Newberry only got about 1" that day...go figure!

Pros to the ride...The Falls and Brewery for lunch.

Cons... Newberry traffic and bumpy trails.

As always...LOVE THE STRAITS TRAILS!!

Ya, you can't really blame Newberry right now. I am sure they have a ton of traffic and the low snow is kicking tons of sand into their system. They can't build a base like we can because of their swamps and stuff. We all need snow.

On our ride last saturday once we got a few miles south of Newberry, the trails whitened up and were pretty good. TASA used a (new?) John Deere groomer and drag, and they were grooming a bit wider than they did with the New Holland setup.

Those last few miles in/out of town were pretty snirty/muddly though.

Surprised that TASA was running a Deere. Last I know they were die hard shure-track guys up there, so nothing but NH-blue up there in the past. I know they told Wayne that they had a groomer down more then one this season already, wonder if it was a loaner.

Also that weekend (Feb 3) there was a green drag sitting at Cut River Inn that was then gone on Feb 4th. At first sight I thought it was one of our drags, but there were no wings on it.

The gal at CRI said TASA had come thru with a John Deere machine with the Soucy tracks on it. So either they have one or were just demo-ing it.

From TASA's website they did get a new JD 7300 series grooming tractor with Soucy tracks and a new drag.

Their website says they got a new sur-track drag and Deere groomer. Glad they are getting off the total sure-track rigs, maybe the different machines will be easier on the maintenance for them. Kinda funny, as I have heard from more then one person that runs their Newberry trail that it seems to be in better shape then in years past. I wonder if it has to do with the heavier machine? It is only a good thing to have good connecting trails to our system. Improve the rep of the whole area, and it helps us all.

Boy there seems like quite a few of the clubs are going to the 4-track systems. Lots of grease-zerts on them for my taste. Someday (way) in the future when we can get a new rig they should be thoroughly tested so we can make a better decision.
