Default Trail Conditions 12-05-19

There is snow - fairly good and deep snow everywhere, but everyone - all the surrounding clubs are still getting things sorted out after last weekend, and we are no different.

Wayne is sending a couple guys out today to evaluate how bad the trees really are and a groomer should follow behind that.

Still can't promise that trails will be in great condition for this weekend. I doubt that a groomer will make it all the way to the West end by then. You should be able to ride, but watch for downed trees and trail hazards.

I should be able to get a couple new pics at work later today and will update tonight or tomorrow.

Do you know if we can make it to Trout Lake via the grade?

Rode the Carp River TT from TL south to Burma grade then west on the Burma grade to the RR grade then north on the RR grade Back to TL on Sunday. There were small trees and brush on the trail (particularly along the RR grade) but everything was passable on a sled. Great riding with lots of fresh powder at that time.

I'm going to try to run the west end with a chainsaw this weekend.

I’ll try to do the same this afternoon between TL and Moran.

If I get a chance & the weather holds out I'm going to try to ride from Rex to the East & go down the Caffey, I'll grab my pruners & hand saw. I'll post later if it works out.

You guys are all awesome. I can't express how much running the trails with reports after a storm helps out. Those with a saw are EXTRA EXTRA awesome.

Wayne is pushing to Trout Lake right now, and there is alot of bent over trees causing issues. Good news is there is alot of snow. Bad news is there will be no railing the trails until things are cleaned up - which is going to take a brushing and several more days he is thinking. He is also reporting water holes even on the RR Grade, so the warm wet ground before all the snow is going to cause issues there as well.

Good news is Iggy got a quick 2in of fluff last night.

Bad news is I tried to bet the Brevort Groomer running yesterday and was unsuccessful, so that is going to take some more work.

Finally a decent snowfall to start the season, and a ton of issues preventing great trails. We will get it fixed up, it will just take some time.

UPDATE:
TREES ARE DOWN ON THE RR GRADE AND GROOMER IS ABORTING.# IT IS BAD ENOUGH WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SEND FULL BRUSHING CREWS IN THERE TO PUNCH IT OPEN NORTH OF THE CEDARVILLE CONNECTOR.

Will have more info on the West side of the lower loop this evening.

Id like to come help this weekend. Are trails passable via truck or should I bring snowmobile? Will toss in a chainsaw and pole saw. Where is best place to start? Can be there as early as 9 or 10 Saturday am.

Trucks would be very iffy now.
Wayne is asking for sleds as if someone gets the truck stuck, it would be very difficult to get them out.

spent 4 hours with a chainsaw yesterday afternoon on the RR grade. Was hoping to clear things all the way from TL to Moran. That was way too optimistic on my part. Focusing primarily on the “big stuff” still only made it about 3 miles south of TL before I was completely wiped out (granted I was by myself). Lots of work still to do!!!

Well my son decided to go to a hockey game instead, so dad and I came up and found where the groomer turned out. Started there and did the mile north to 3122 national Forest. 3 hours, one tank on the polesaw and half or so on the chainsaw. Beautiful day!

Did some scouting for Wayne on Saturday. Caffey was quite bad with lots of downed trees. I cam across 3 water holes and one being a good size. By the time I came home Sat night they were pretty much all froze over. I did not have a chain saw or I would have cut some stuff back. I know Pat gave the cut trail a shot on Saturday morning but turned around due to a water crossing in a bad spot. Wish I could get back up this weekend and help cut but I have other obligations. From a snow perspective we are in a great spot this early in the season! Sunday when I left it was warming up but it looked like the sun was going to stay away. Hopefully this week gives us some more fresh white stuff!
