Default Trail Conditions 2-02-11

Not much of a change around here. Cold today, and windy. We saw nothing from the big blizzard of '11, not one flake, no frost nothing. So post up your storm totals to make us UP people jealous, and let me know if you have see our #6 groomer roving about Detroit smoothing the expressway trails

I am not going to repeat everything again, so hop back a day or 2 in the condition report to get more detailed, but the short story is all our trails are ridable, the RR Grade some some rocks mixed into the base. Trails very between 3 and 6" deep, with 2 kind bad areas, just South of Moran, and the Pipeline stretch.

We are down to one groomer, and it is roaming about the system here and there, and I am neglecting the Cedarville connector some until we get our second machine back.

I-500 in the Soo this weekend. LaBatte Blue Pond Hockey here on the 19th.

On the news they showed snowmobiles on the streets in Chicago. Here in Celina we were right on the border between ice and snow. We got ice pellets on top of some snow but thankfully no freezing rain. The snow is crusty enough that the guy that plows my drive says his truck and blade just float on top of it. Blowing and snowing right now. Our county has a level 3 emergency out now which means no one is allowed on the roads (unless you're going to the beer store). Got a text from my boss last nite, no work the rest of the week!!

Seriously? It is only Wednesday. You are only allowed one cleanup day after a storm.

On the other note, I saw on the news about the sleds in Chicago too. It was a EMS, and they had a backboard strapped to the side of the sled. Good idea, and how cool would that be?

For those who like to have a ride before the I-500, trails out if Iggy area thin, but ridable. I would suggest that you go North-West out of town on trail 471 up to Trout Lake, avoiding the RR Grade trail, which is always the worst. That is the preferred way anyway, much more scenic, and only takes you another 10 minutes or so to go that direction. The grade has about a 3" base, with some rocks mixed into it. The rest of our trails are again, thin, but ridable with between 3" and 8" base.

Free Parking in the Ice Rink parking lot, right at the trail head.
Have fun, and everyone have a safe weekend!

Just a quick Friday update/supplement.

We are expected to get maybe a total of between 2-3" of snow over this weekend. We need it. I have not been North in a couple of days, and with the weather creeping just a little warmer, the RR Grade is degrading and there is nothing we can do about it. Unless we get some more snow, the RR Grade is gonna be pretty bad in 3 or 4 places between St. Ignace and Trout Lake - all in the open areas like normal.

No snow last night. Bummer.

Trails may be in a little trouble today, about 38d right now.

RR Grade from Moran to Iggy was in a bit of trouble today. It got pretty warm, and it is rather brown through that stretch.

A heavy mist, turned to a light rain, and is now headed into freezing rain.
Nothing on the radar though.

I have surveyed quite a bit around there in the past, but have not been around there since last winter.

I thought that 'lake' was a gravel pit from I-75 construction fed by swamps to the West. No idea if there is any fish in it.

It wasn't great but we made do... NW down 471 was great! We made it up to Curtis and back on Saturday and it wasn't too bad. Sunday we made it out to Hessel and back....not so good. We hit a few carbide burners and hyfax toasters but we still knocked out 300 miles this weekend incident free! Overall it was a fun weekend.
