Default Grand Lake

I have heard and been reading about the grand lake issues. What I have read and heard is things are not good at all or have not been good for some time. I wanted to get feedback from the Celina crew on this issue and your take. Sounds like the lake is shut down currently.

Thanks for making us look so good Brian. It even made the L. A. Times.
Yes that is algae. It's a new form of Blue Algae that they haven't had to deal with before. They are currently recommending that people not even boat on the lake.
We have been in a constant battle with the farming community surrounding our area. With all the run off from fertilizer and manure, The algae flourishes.
I don't know what the best answer is but I hope they get a start on fixing it. I do know it's going to take a long time.
At times the smell is unbearable. I live 2 blocks from the lake and sometimes I don't even like to sit on my patio.
But hey, we've still got a lot of great bars around the lake.

Up here in teh Saginaw Bay region, we also have problems with algae in the summer sometimes. We get our drinking water from the bay, and once in a while the water will get a musty odor from the algae blooms out there. The water treatment plant has to add more ozone to the process which usually takes care of the problem.

The large animal farming operations and waste water overflows contribute significantly to the problem.

That is what I have heard as well. There are a few people here at work who live in or near Celina. I heard that the farmer's animal by-products and fertilizers etc. are the main issue. I also heard that the bars were feeling the effects so are the bars going to stay open? I heard the Elks or Eagles was in bad shape for business? I also heard the smell was horrible. Hope they get a handle or fix on this issues. I heard it may take 10-20 years?

That's the Eagle Lodge that is on the lake, just 2 blocks from me. Yes the bars along with the marinas are feeling it. My Doo dealer (Bayview), where your brother bought his Cat, is going to close for the whole month of August.
Griz and I went on the lake today to test a boat that he rebuilt the lower unit on, saw a dead duck floating in the lake. Not sure what happened but that's the first time I ever saw that here. The lake smelled and afterwards we rinsed off the boat and you could still smell it.
It's not good around here right now.

Maybe you can blame it on BP. Send in a claim and see what happens.

It's going down hill fast. This whole situation is getting out of hand. Now we've got pets dieing. I'm attaching a link to a Dayton TV news spot about a family whose dog died and the man got sick from cleaning the algae off his dog. I'm not sure how much of it I believe as far as the man getting sick. I've talked to some people that know him and have said he's the type of guy to look for "easy money".

Not sure about the the sick man, ran into a relative on the golf course friday, and he sounded fairly credable. He claims memory loss and the apperance of being drunk ( hell I fit that catagory)
One thing I do know is Blondie and I went out to check out the lake this afternoon, and the 200 Optimax went down.( lake related ???)

Towed in by a 115 Evenrude( sad day)

We were out on Lake Erie the other day and algea was all over the place. Most of the Lake Erie beach on the SW corner was shut down for excess E-Coli in the water. The water in the Great Lakes is well above normal for this time of year and are well on their way to setting records. Let's hope that this whole "Global Warming" stuff isn't true because things could stink in the next few years! Lakes filling up with algae, our fishing industry turning to garbage, and crappy snow in the winter....Sounds like a nightmare! Let's just hope this is a 2010 fluke and we head back to normal next year.

Well on a good note, the lake did NOT cause the opti-max to go south. Just a faulty air pump, which I am told she needs 90 pounds of rail presure to operate, lost a bearing and new part only $ 150. Hope thats all, the lake is still in bad shape but much much better then the previous pics, still think my boat will stay on the trailer.
Bar Stool open is still a go, suggesting people go by land with a D.D., Ha Ha not that many sober souls in the whole county. After all Wink can only haul 4 or 5 players.
