Default Trail Conditions 3-11-19

We have tons of snow, so lets pile some more on top of that! The little storm that went through Saturday-Sunday was supposed to drop like 3in for Iggy, and we got more like 6in and 8in out in the core of the system by the time it was done. And apparently with winds drifted things in overnight too. I didn't think it was too bad when I went to bed, but that pics of the drifts I got back was pretty decent on Sunday - more than I expected for sure. Snow was a packy type very good trail building snow, and basically the first that we have had all season that should pack in well. I expect trails to all be in excellent shape this morning, and over the next few days. After that, it is going to get dicy.

Forecast for Thursday right now is almost 50d, and they are talking a rain storm Wed-Thrus. Even though the Rest of March is forecasted to be slightly below normal, a more general warming trend is on its way and it looks like the daytime temps are finally going to be breaking the freezing mark during daylight for the foreseeable future. Trails will held up for a LONG time as we have 30in or more of base out there. Don't fear, just book some more weekends, and crank up some more milage!

A big thank you to David from Trout Lake, along with Matt and Christy from Bay City who took it upon themselves to remove the Round Lake Rd tree yesterday. Things like that help out more than you know.

On Saturday I was cleaning up a couple of driveways just outside of Iggy with my backhoe. I got stuck plowing and blew a hydro line. Thanks to the downstate couple that took the time to stop and check on me to see if I needed any help. Boo to the group of 8 mountain sleds that seemed to think that the only way you can cross a driveway is pinned to the handlebar and roost everything in sight.

Little trail candy from Moran fields yesterday and last night. Chris is estimating there is 5 FEET of trail base in some areas out there. Those drifts were impressive for the little storm!

A huge THANK YOU for cutting that tree out for me!!!! That was the best thing I could come across after what was already a long night, and would have been way longer if it wasn't for you guys. That was a big tree and I noticed last week that it looked like one that could go, unfortunately it did. A quick push with the blade to get the large end off the trail farther and push some of the brush further off the trail and I was back on my way.
Anybody that rode the grade through Moran yesterday saw how bad the drifting was. It took me 5 trips from 123 to Brevort Lake Rd just to get it passable. I can honestly say it was the first time I was actually worried about not getting through, and not much worries me about getting stuck.

We are heading up from downstate tomorrow. Passing thru St. Ignace early afternoon. Weather is supposed to be warm, possibly rain. We have always wanted to ride over to Mackinac island. Will the ice still be safe? Where is the best place to park/"launch from"? Anybody hve thoughts...? is offline

Every inch of trail in Iggy was excellent to perfect this morning. Super-highway flat. It is raining now.

It is gonna rain tomorrow. Help out the clubs that have been struggling with the soft snow this season and stay off the trails until Friday or Saturday. You can rip them up all you want then.
