Default Trail Conditions 2-07-19

Just a quick update to tell you that the trails are fantastic right now. 12-20in base. Board flat and super-highway.

AND, all of that is going to change in the next 24 hours. Storm coming in within 4 hours, and they STILL can't pinpoint what is going to happen. One site says 1-2in snow, and 1/2in of ice. Another says 4-8in snow with 0.1in of ice.

The best I have used this season is trending on the lower side of snow with more ice. I will update when everything is over. I am not sure if groomers will run tonight, or tomorrow (even during the day), but rest assured we will fix it as soon as we can.

Afternoon update:
Precip kicked in before lunch. Very little rain so far, which is good. Lots of ice pellets falling though, maybe a little snow, but not much. Total accumulation is about 1/2in so far. We look to be on the short side of this storm I think.

How is the weather progressing? I see it says sleet right now on AccuWeather. Just hoping the ice stays South of the bridge... Thanks all!

St Ignace got 2-3in of snow mixed with ice pellets all day yesterday. Then a small bit of liquid mixed in in the evening. The result is a very hard pack crust on what we got. Drifts will not be busted, they will be rode over. We lost zero snow, and only gained. Trails will be very hard packed and off trail is no longer powder riding and will have the hard crust on top. Winds are forecasted to be pretty strong today, and then it should be a nice weekend.

Quote:
Today: Isolated snow showers. Patchy blowing snow. Cloudy, with a high near 14. Wind chill values as low as -11. Breezy, with a west wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Isolated snow showers before 1am. Patchy blowing snow before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 5. Wind chill values as low as -11. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 16. Wind chill values as low as -10. West wind around 10 mph.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. West wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 21. West wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the morning.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12.

Tuesday: Snow. Cloudy, with a high near 26. Breezy.

I think Ken ran the North groomer last night. The South groomer will run tonight thanks to guest groomer Toddmeister. Watch for hard packed drifts until the machine gets to it.

Guest groomer Nick will be running tomorrow night out of Iggy.
If you see any of them on the trail give them a big thumbs up and wave

For those that do not know, Todd drove up from Bay CIty just to run the groomer. Ran through the night and drove back home. Huge thanks to you.

Guest groomer Nick is doing the same tonight from Grand Rapids.

Yes our 'fans' are a little nutz at times.

Heading up tonight for three days, staying at the Super 8. Is the access trail groomed or would it be best to trail to the ice rink?

Thanks in advance!

We rode back to the Super 8 Saturday night. The town trail hasn't been groomed for a while, but is passable. You'll need to do a little road riding, but there is adequate snow for cooling and hyfax lubrication.

Enjoy your ride and stay safe! As Neil has posted, the trails are in excellent condition.
