Default Trail Conditions 1-10-19

It is nothing but good news around here. Been a long time since I could put that info up. All of our trails have 8-14in of packed groomed snow on them - and we are still working that in to keep everything level. All trails have had at least 1, most 2 groomer passes, and groomers are both running through sunday at least. I may try to groom town trail this weeked, but no promises. There is enough snow for you to get around with little issues.

REMEMBER is you encounter a groomer out there - THEY HAVE THE ROW! GET OUT OF THE WAY! With these snow conditions I want no issues with stuck groomers. This snow is slippery for these big machines, and they seems to be sliding all over teh place so be courteous and help out the volunteers!

It was questioned so I will let you know that the only logging that I know about is about 1 mile of the East end of Red Creek Road by Mackinac trail on our Cedarville connector. The plowed portion is easily passable, just share that section of trail. They are also logging on Castle Rock road again, however they are NOT plowing our trail, only the North and SOuth ends of the road. They are plowing the intersection of Round Lake and Castle Rock road for 100 feet to turn plows around. They are doing a good job with it and we appreciate the USFS working with us on this.

Forecast is great for riding, with temps in the teens and mid 20s, with no warm up on the immediate horizon. We are going to get 1 -1.5in of snow on Friday night just to freshen things up a bit. I would caution that 2-tracks will be OK, but probably not enough snow for true off trail riding if anyone does that anymore.

If you are new to riding in our area... you are in for a real treat. Trails are wide, flat and fast. You will have a blast. But where do you start? Fist off, dongo any further North! Take the first exit off the bridge, hang a right and go through Iggy. Turn left at the NAPA store, and the trailhead is on the left, South of Little Bear ice rink. If that lot fills up, park on the North end of the Ice RInk. If that fills up, park along the West side of Ojibwa trail which runs N-S on the East side of the ice rink. Trails leave town tight from these locations. If you need lodging, there are several motels open. For the most part I will let you do your own research on that, but will mention that the Super 8 is owned by the Club Pres. and the Budget Host also supports the Club. No there is not trail access to the casino unless the lake is frozen, which it is not.

Also, if you want to stay a little West of town, please support Groomer Bobby's place in Epoufette 30min West of the bridge:
Post is a little old, so not sure if the rates are the same, but nice clean simple place with a fantastic view and perfect trail access across the street from a tavern. I talked to him on his groomer run Tuesday night and he said he has 4 rooms open for this weekend. Take a look: http://www.straitsareasnowmobileclub...ighlight=motel

Remember downstate took a beating with the rain on Monday, so there will be heavy traffic in the UP for sure. Please be careful and watch out of each other out there.
The guys have sent me a couple of grooming pictures so I will leave you with those.

Call now to get your reservations guys! Super 8 didn't have much left when I called this morning. Looking forward to a good ride this weekend, my wife has decided she wants to try again after more than 10 years, so we will each be driving with a kid on the two up seat.

This is nothing official, but I know there is a bunch of people going out for dinner on Saturday night. Just a FYI, I will be at Fred's Pub (the bowling alley) for the dinner special at 8pm on Saturday. Anyone is welcome to come and come say hi.

BE ON THE LOOKOUT
Anyone who is riding the North and West portions of the trail this weekend, please keep an eye out for a trailer tire. Somehow the Brevort groomer lost a drag tire & rim last night when the studs broke. If you see it, please take it to the next intersection and prop it up against a stop sign post so the groomer can get it on the next pass. I already have $400 in new tires this season, I would like to get it back for a spare.

The groomer left Epoufette to Brevort, across the Burma grade and up to Trout Lake, then down to the Caffey to Rexton, then drove H-40 to Epoufette. This is the "full Northern Loop". It could be on any of those trails. It is a standard trailer tire, so if if came off on H40 it was long gone.

Everyone, thanks for looking.

MDOT's painters have equipment in the park this year, so we told them we would not sign or groom that route this year.

BUT, you turn left at Cut River Rd.

As of 10:30am the South lot is full. City plowed the banks back, so please park North of the ice rink as there should be plenty of room out there.

Both groomers ran a full run last night and reported no problems. Trails are in very good condition.

Please be courteous to others out there and have a safe ride today.

Where is the south lot ? Is it for us snowmobilers to park our rigs and get on the trail from there ? I have only ever parked at the hockey rink and always went in and asked if was ok with them first.

The South lot does not have an address, but is on Marquette Street, just South of the ice rink driveway.

You do not need to ask. Just park either in the South lot, or off of the pavement, North of the ice rink.

We rode out to trout lake from little bear. Trail was great. Need to get the kids new gloves to do a longer day next time. I hope whoever hit the truck in the south parking lot didn't get seriously hurt!

I got another report that the trails are holding up pretty good, considering the traffic. ONe driver estimated this is the most daily traffic we have seen in over 5 years.

On the Accident on the South lot:

I also hope the guy injured a quick recovery. Looked like the police and EMS had a quick response. If you or your group need anything please PM me and I will do what we can to help you out.

To the group with the damaged blue truck, if you need local contact info to help you out, please PM me and I will refer some resources to try to get you going this weekend or help out.
