Default Trail Conditions 1-07-18

Here we go. Snowing around 1in per hour right now. Calling for between 5-8in. I think we will drop in right at 6in. Not great that I have seen some sleet already at 9am - and I am hoping that doesn't cut the snow total down much. The end of this storm is what is going to be strange. Temps are going to warm up through the day, and end up in the 35-36d range. Tomorrow isn't going to be very cold in the mid 30s ?!?

So what is that going to do to the trails and new snow? Hardly anything if I had to say now. We should end up with a new 5in base over the ice that is out there and trails should be in very good condition soon. Here is the tricky part though, the tomorrow conditions will be similar to Saturday, and and I found out first hand there was no point it grooming as all it did was continually plug up the drag - it was maddening. So after the big storm, we may not end up grooming until temps drop back down on Wednesday. The good news is that we will be in great shape after that.

If you missed the post from over the weekend, I groomed part of the RR Grade, and Ken did the whole North system this weekend. The result was a hard frozen flat base before the storm started, making every inch of snow we get count.

I will post some updates later so stay tuned, but so far, it is 9am, and we have 2in of fresh and a little sleet.

I will drop some trail candy from Saturday North of the Burma grade on the RR trail.

Thumbs up Re: Trail Conditions 1-07-18

Looking good UP there, will have to take a trip soon.

We did get a day trip in last Thursday around Rose City/Luzerne and it was pretty good but thin.

1pm update a good 3in is down. Precip has been ranging from snow to sleet to big wet flakes. Talking snow till 8, and a mix rain/snow from 7-9pm.

We may wait until Wednesday if the temp is much above freezing tomorrow. The snow will not flow through the drag and all it will do is plug up and end up plowing the white gold off to the side of the trail which is what we do not want to happen.

4pm update. More sleet than snow for the last couple hours in iggy is keep our totals down some. Still 4in+ in the ground and in a total whiteout at the moment. I understand the sleet has not been as much an issue North of here.

Hi Neil,
Figured I'd give you an update from the "West end".....

I talked to my neighbor, he said we've got about 7-8" so far and it's still coming down. My security cams show the same. Should be plenty on the Caffey.

Thanks 906...

Another call came in...

Everybody start rubbing your hands together, things are looking GOOOOOOD.

In fact, snow was supposed to be done by 6pm. Looks to snow until at least 8pm, (still may get an hour of rain though)

The best snow of the day has been from 2-5pm, and it is still coming down.
