Trail Conditions 2-06-14
Trail are in really really good shape. My guys have done a fantastic job getting through this tough time of having only one tractor. Our tractor should be back Friday, and will begin nightly run over the weekend.
The trails are in fine shape and we will get the few issues all cleaned up tomorrow night. No new snow and slightly warmer days have packed things down a little, but you would never know. The cold nights are keeping things firmed up and the grooms are holding well.
The ice bridge to mackinac island is open and being heavily traveled. If you want to cross check local conditions. Best to park and the trailhead and ride downtown to the shell and cross from there. The dock parking lot is too congested for tourists.
There is still logging going on in the core of our system, and the Cedarville connector. Watch for trucks on the plowed roads.
The HUGE pond hockey tourney is next weekend. I hear a few rooms opened up at the last minute, so if you want to come this way, it may be spendy, but you can stay here. The following weekend is the junior pond hockey weekend. hotels without pools should be open. The weekend after that is the newly enlarged ice golf scramble on the straits! Check that one out for sure!
Trails are in great shape, and grooming will be up to full song tomorrow night. Miles of smiles on our groomed snow highways. Head on UP!
Todays trail candy pic shows the type of base we have. This pic was taken on the Burma grade, right in the core of our system. The off-trail powder is crazy - and this is a prime example of why when meeting a groomer, it is the snowmobile responsibility to get out of the way! If the groomer gets within 2' of the side of the trail it will break off the base and we will have a mess. It is very important for the rest of the season to make sure you give the groomer plenty of room to get by. Yes you may get stuck, but 2 guys can pull a sled out, getting the groomer un-stuck isn't any fun!
