Default Edwards wins Las Vegas

Carl Edwards won at Las Vegas. Earnhardt Jr was second, followed by Bifle, Harvick and Burton.

Looks like Junior can run on other tracks, not just Daytona and Dega.

WOW a couple hard hits, Stewart and Gordon. Glad those cars are a lot safer. They're gonna feel that in the morning.

There are a couple of tracks with worker openings designed like that. It seems like when a car looses it off the corner they almost always hit very close to the opening. Those openings need to be moved, and SAFER barrier installed along there.

How bout the post race findings with the 99?????? He got away with that win for sure. I think he should have been penalizied for the tire that got away. I'm sure he's gonna loose some serious points and his crew cheif is gonna have several weeks off here very soon. Nascar impounded his car and took it back to N.C.

Oil reservoir lid was not bolted down or something like that. They think it lets the higher pressure air escape from the car creating either better speed, or better downforce, can't remember which. 6 cars nicked 25 pts at Daytona for that.

The lid for the box that encases the dry sump oil tank was gone. The box has a breather on the bottom so with the lid off it creates a vaccum and creates downforce. The nationwide cars that got penalized in Daytona only had the lid loose. Edwards lid was gone.

Seeing as they already found this at Daytona, I'm surprised they took the lid off entirely. Was the lid still inside?? Good run for JR though.

I heard the lid was still in the car but completely off the box. It must be something serious seeing they took the car from him.

After the Robby Gordon penalty you would think Carl is gonna get something very similar.

LAS VEGAS -- Carl Edwards' Sprint Cup victory in the UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will stand, but he's likely to lose some of the driver and owner points he earned after NASCAR officials found "an issue" with his No. 99 Ford in post-race inspection late Sunday.

Want more? Get inside the walls of Roush Fenway Racing.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Edwards' car did not fail post-race inspection. But inspectors did find something amiss.
"We had an issue in post-race inspection with the 99. The lid on the oil reservoir encasement, or the oil tank box, was off," Poston said. "So we're going to take the 99 back to the [NASCAR] Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., and if there are any actions that need to be taken, those will be taken and announced next week."
Earlier this season at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR officials discovered five Nationwide Series cars to have a similar problem during post-qualifying inspection following their season-opening race. Each of the teams eventually were docked 25 driver and 25 owner points.
Poston said the situation with Edwards' car was not quite the same.
"It was similar. In those cases, the lids were loose," Poston said. "The lid on the 99 was off."
Edwards has won the past two Sprint Cup races. His victory Sunday vaulted him and the No. 99 car to the top of the driver and owner point standings. He currently has 491 driver points and is 21 ahead of Kyle Busch, who is in second with 470.
Bob Osborne, Edwards' crew chief, said Sunday night that he would wait until after NASCAR is able to take a closer look at the car at the R&D Center before making any comments.

Yea Nascar doesn't take wins away but I'll bet they take about 100 driver and 100 owner points from him for this plus give Osborne a few weeks off.

So last night on I believe it's Totally Nascar, they talked to Rusty Wallace about this and he said the lid on the #64 car was warped. That call got reversed. However, he went on to say you wouldn't want that open due to the exhaust fumes that would enter the car. He then added that does help downforce but it's so small, it doesn't help that much.

HMMM, let me see if I get this right... a car owner says it wasn't done intentionally due to the lid warping AND you wouldn't want to do it anyway because of the exhaust fumes?? OF COURSE he's gonna say that!!!

Question: Why hasn't this been tried before on the older (non COT) car? Or if it has, no one has ever mentioned it.

Mark, I have never heard it mentioned before but leave it to that cheater Rousch to endanger his driver to win

Well, Well, Well. Edwards gets the big fine. Thats the closest nascar has ever come to taking a win away from someone. I think everyone figured the 100 pts and 100,000 fine and 6 race suspension but to take away the 10 bonus pts if he makes the chase is huge. Well at least he gets to keep the checkered flag and the trophy Cheater

Word has it they put it in the wind tunnel to check the downforce issue and also found that the clips on the side window were released lettting air out of the car providing downforce. I guess there must have been an advantage. You notice no where in the penalty did they mention oil box lid being loose. Completely different infraction from all the nationwide cars. This was air coming into the car from a different compartment. On top of that very dangerous if that car were to flip and the oil tank get damaged in some way and spill all that oli into the drivers compartment.

My friend that works down there said he was hearing from a few different crew chiefs well time to find something else. Gonna have to leave that alone for awhile I'm sure its been going on just not to the degree Osborn took it too.

On the other hand Robby G gets his points back and they lift the suspension but raise the fine to 150,000! Biggest fine in nascar history. I wonder if Robby pleaded with them just give me my points back and raise the fine since we all know Dodge is gonna pay that for sending the wrong part to him I personally think that is a good thing. I wish there were more single car teams that could compete and break up teh big groups like Hendrick, Rousch,etc...

I 100% disagree with taking points away from a team if something is found BEFORE qualifying. It is the crew chiefs job to make the car the best it can be, even working in the gray areas. If they can get between the rules, and NASCAR doesn't catch it before qualifying, then they can race it. If it gets caught after the race, then you made points, they should be taken away from you. However if you present something to NASCAR, and they don't like it, or think it is against the rules, and the car was never on the track, then $$ and time is more appropriate.

I'm with Kenny, a few more competitive single car teams would be a good thing. Rousch will appeal, and loose this one.

I also agree with Neil on taking points away if you never take advantage of the part or whatever ie.. pre tech before car goes on track.

I'm not so sure that Rousch will appeal. They said they are gonna have him start his suspension starting this week. I think they have been caught good and they know it. I mean Geoff Smith said it was vibration of the bolts that made them come loose. Well if your car was vibrating so bad that you shook 3 maybe 4 bolts loose then how did he drive the car to a top 20 much less winning the race I mean the other 42 cars were fine. With the window clips being open and all the evidence they have I don't think Rousch has a leg to stand on but who knows its Nascar
