We had a pretty good day. Our goal being our 1st race was to come home in one piece. Well we did that. We finished 9th and could have got better but we got spun and it knocked something out in the front end. It must have knocked the toe out and it just wouldn't handle from then on. We were passing a car and he cut down on us and pushed in the fender but no huge deal. All in all we were happy for our 1st race and we'll be ready for next weekend in Ft Wayne. It was a great learning expirence for Matt and I'm sure he will be less nervous and more cormfortable next weekend. That was his 1st time around a big group in the late model and the track was small . Hope to see you guys soon.

Thanks guys. I just got done working on the car all day and we found a pretty big demon that we got fixed. I hate to put the hex on us but it should make a pretty good difference. I can't wait till next weekend.

Wink, Griz, Hope to see you guys this weekend.

If you have ever seen the movie, The Princess Bride and like me think it is one of the all time greats, this will make tons of sense. If not, well then you may think I am a bit weird.

This is copied form nascar.com's weekly power rankings:

1.)Kyle Busch

The only thing going through my head while watching that was:
"My name is Juan Montoya! You wrecked my racecar! Prepare to crash!"

Stewart got released from Gibbs today for the remaining year of his contract. He will announce tomorrow that he's buying Haas and going back to Chevy next year.

Now you can root for your boy again Neil. He'll be back in a Chevy.

My opinion, a bad move. Tony ends his career with 2 championships. I always thought that he would be around 4 by the time he was done. Oh ya, he will have some good runs, but we are talking 2 more years to get things clicking and by then the ownership aspect will be too much of a distraction. I will support him, but can't get all that jazzed about a bad move. Oh did I mention that rooting for the Office Depot car is nowhere near as cool as rooting for the Home Depot car.

I just can't understand getting into a biz partnership with a guy who is currently in jail!

I do think Newman will make a good teammate.

I was talking to a few employees at Haas today and they are completely stoked about this all happening. The shop is way too laid back and these guys are sure hoping that Tony will turn it around and get them heading in the right direction. I think its a pretty good decision on Tonys part only because Rick Hendrick is behind the whole thing. Its almost gonna be like adding 2 more cars to the Hendrick team with two more to come. All the cars and motors are gonna be built out of the Hendrick stable and its gonna be handled like a Hendrick team. Don't be suprised Neil. I don't think Tony is anywhere close to being done winning. The word on the inside is alot brighter than it appears on the outside.

Kyle Petty's Charity Ride stopped at the Holiday here in town today. Haven't quite figured out how to resize my pics for posting here, but they are at www.flickr.com/julperk. Kyle flew with Matt Kenseth from Chicago to leave Traverse City early this morning. Matt was the only other driver I heard of being there. You can tell especially in my picture with Kyle that it was way windy here, so I am sure that made for an interesting trip across the bridge.

Kenny,
I must have missed your previous post about Tony...

No, I don't think that he is done winning, in fact, I give it a fairly high percentage that he get 2 wins yet this year, and at least 1 next year. Championship are another story though, that is way more about good consistent finishes, and to think that he will have that team up there within 2 years is out there. I figure he has max 4 more years behind the wheel. The Hendrick thing is supposed to be a plus, but for how much? Back in the day, all of RCRs top engines came from one guy, currently true for JGR and HMS as far as I know. So HMS is farming all of these engines out to people, and ya they are good, but do you really really think that on a year long basis, that the leased motors will be as good as the ones out of the 24, 48, 88 camps? It comes to a point where you are stretching your resources too thin, and i have to believe that there is only a limited amount of the best of anything - either parts, or talent to put it together. And if there really is a championship race between the 88 and say (14) do you think the engines will be the same quality? I have never really liked the leased engine thing - from anybody. Does anybody really think that nay satellite team can be a week-in week-out contender and run better then 'big mama' providing the support? SHR would be the first. The more you talk about it, the more and more your realize that there is way too many 'firsts' or haven't happen in 20 years things about this deal.

Overall, is this the best move to Tony? Over probably, he is setting up his legacy for the future, and he has said repeatedly that he will only drive so long. I have still not changed my mind as far as the championships though.

Yep, decent racing weekend. Played it a bit low key. Caught up with some old friends, and took a couple of much needed days off.
I return to: 15 phone messages, 45 e-mails (only 1/2 junk) and a nuked desk. Oh well, back to the grind.
