Default Scenic Destinations Wanted!!!!

I am planning a large group ride within the Straits trails this season and want some idea's of some nice Scenic stops. So far I have a few in mind that are not to far as I want to keep the ride easy for some of the 1st timers.

-Mackinaw Island (ice permitting)

-The Quarry

-Cut river bridge (might be tricky if I have some 1st timers)

-Trailside bonfire??

-Rapids

Any idea's???

Pics of stops you like??

Thanks

Pat

This is a long trip from Iggy, but would be ok if you trailered up to paradise. Crisp point light is a place I actually found getting lost in the woods driving around a couple of summers ago. Its about 3 miles off of trail 8 on Superior, the signs pointing toward the lighthouse are small so it would be best to map it before you go. The road in gets rough toward the end of the season because it is not groomed but I think its awesome because the only way to see it in the winter time is by snowmobile. There is also a geocach up there but I wouldn't suggest finding it in the winter, I think I dug through 5' of snow before I figured it wasn't worth it.

The Mackinaw Ice Bridge is the best. I waited a few years for the ice to finally form hard enough to do this a couple years ago and loved it. Just another item I crossed off my bucket list.

Head north towards Trout Lake, Strongs, Raco and take the trails towards the Bay Mills Casino (#889 I think). Great overlook with views of Spectacle Lake (or is it Monacle Lake) and Whitefish Bay. Fun riding across the bay to behind the casino to pick up trail 8 at Brimley. Have a great ride.

Your right about the view...Great Pics!!!

Been across the ice bridge lots and it never gets old, one of my favorites and a must for this ride.

Keep the idea's coming.

Thanks,

I have another spot that I remember going past a few years ago but I can't remember where it is??? The trail runs by a house/business that they feed the deer and I remember seeing about 50 deer within 20 feet of the trail.

Does anyone know its location?

Again any other idea's would be great.

Lots of deer in the UP, but it could in Hulbert at the bar in town. They feed all winter and LOTS of deer yard up in along the trail in and out town. Nice ride getting to Hulbert - lots of loops possible.

The place your thinking of is out of business and has been for years. It was right on the trail heading east towards Hessell and Cedarville. He had a huge herd of deer just wandering around behind the store. Now the place to see them is at Shirleys in Hulbert.

Thanks for the idea's!

With a big group and some of them being newbies I am going to keep the ride short so the Falls, Lake Superior etc. maybe out of the question. My thoughts are to do loops with-in the straits area.

-Mackinaw Island Sunday AM for breakfast or Lunch if the whole group will cross the ice.

-Cut River Bridge

-Newberry for lunch

-Rapids for a break

-Maybe a nice Bonfire break sponsored by the Club???

-Timmy Lee's after the ride for a dinner/party!

I originally started this ride to get some of my friends and neighbors to try out snowmobiling... so sites, food and fun on and off the trail are number-1.

Anyone who would like to do this type (slow) ride please feel free to contact me for details. As time gets close I will have a better idea of when and where.

Our trails are super great for new riders with the wide flat trails. They can get comfortable trail riding that way. There are tons of 2-tracks to explore North & West of the trail stop, out towards Cut River & Rexton.

Ok, I have some nice idea's for riding destinations, now I need some idea's for a Hotel/Motel for a group of 30. If someone knows who would give the best group deal on accommodations and sled rental please let me know.

-Easy to ride out of for the "Newbies".

-Pool/Hot tub for those aching bones.

-Sled rental would be nice but not necessary as I believe they will deliver.

-Location needs to be in St. Ignace. (Brevort would be great but I know the Chapel Hill does not have a pool (not one you would swim in).

Thanks,

Pat

My vote always goes for the Super 8. Couple hundred yards away from a sled rental place (another hotel). Close to food and gas. And Jimmy is the club pres. Call and talk to Jimmy, he would probably work up a group rate for you. Also get in touch with the Fish and Hunt shop in Curtis, I believe they own most of the sled rentals around including the ones I mentioned above. They may also give you a group rate and deliver them to your motel.

How hard or easy is it to get to the trail from the Super-8? I will have some "Newbies" and would like easy access to the trail.

Neil has been grooming a trail right along the south side of 2 that goes right down to the Shell station or you can ride around behind the hotel on the golf course and go behind the truck stop down to the Quality Inn. Either way takes you to the Shell station on 2. The trail head starts there. It's marked. You have to ride along the street for about a mile, part ditch and part berm. It takes you to the RR gade right where I-75 goes over the top of it. I think newbies could handle it OK. It also gives you a chance to fill the sleds up either at the beginning or end of the day.

Thanks Wink!

I don't have a date set yet but any of you guys and gals who want to do a slow ride with a nice little party at Timmy Lee's you guys are all invited. Planning on a two day ride with Mackinaw Island (ice permitting) Sunday morning for breakfast and Bloody Mary's. Trying to introduce a few friends into the sport and the group is growing so why not make a party out of it!

I will have more detail as the date gets closer. Should be right around the middle of February and I think about 30 riders (friends, family, neighbors and my riding buds) those us who have kids have decided to leave them at home so we can make it an adult ride with fun at Timmy Lee's Saturday night.

I would pick a different weekend. You picked pond hockey weekend http://www.stignace.com/+-labatt-blu...mpionship-415/, and if you can get rooms (most places are already sold out) You are not going to get any deals, even getting a big block. LaBatts said they are committed to making this the biggest pond hockey tourney in the country. We are going to have (I think) 32 rinks this year.

Yep! Definitely a bad weekend!

I may have to switch to Feb 5th & 6th and just do a Saturday Ride so people can still watch the game Sunday.
