Default Trail Conditions 12-09-08

Off trail conditions persist on our trails everywhere. There is 8-12" on the Southern 1/3, and 2 feet to 3+ feet on the Northern 2/3 of the system. There are no major problems to report throughout the system, however we are still not grooming at this time.

As of right now, both groomers are in the shop for maintenance. Training of this seasons groomer drivers should begin by this weekend, and the plan is to have the entire system covered by the weekend.

These snow conditions are just about unbelievable. Looks like we are into good snow for the foreseeable future!

Here are some pics from our ride today. Me and wifey put on about 80 miles or so.

First pic is heading north on the RR grade at Cheeseman Road. About 12" on the ground there.

Second pic is of the Cedarville trail. About 1.5 to 2 feet on the trail there.

3rd pic is at the RR grade and Burma T. About 2 feet there.

4th pic - Got crazy deep just north of the T all the way into Trout Lake.

Here's a couple more:

These were taken at the Caffey and Carp River Rd. Truck Trail Tee.

Snow was up to the top of my knees deep, and this was in wooded cover.

Un-frickin believable for December 9th! Not a bad way to spend my birthday!

I didn't ride up this weekend (need to keep peace in the house - I've been UP every weekend since Oct 1), but brother reports 8" of heavy new snow overnight (Fri-Sat) at our place SW of Rudyard. I can't believe the way the season is starting out.

Any groomer sightings?

Rode tip-o-the-mitt yesterday, put on 200 miles with Adam (Skeet), Jeff (SmittyAllSeason) and their friend Mark. Started at Black Mountain near Black Lake, headed to Millersburg, back up to Cheboygan, down to Indian River, west to Alanson, into the Harbor Springs trails, back east to Pellston, up to Mac City, down to Cheboygan, and back to Black Mountain.
Whew! There was more snow east of I-75. Thinnest around Pellston/Alanson.
Trails were in nice shape, thinner spots were getting dirty in the corners.

Was in brevort this weekend, never seen this much snow this early, 2 1/2 to 3 ft on the level, with 10-12 new on Friday night. Broke trail to trout lake, turned around went to rexton 6.2 gallons for 46 miles, lots of powder! Rexton to cut river was groomed at some point but had 12-15" of new snow on it. Groomer was out on the grade from st Ignace to trout lake late sat afternoon. 125 miles of great off trail like conditions. Left early Sun because it was raining , but with the amount of snow I don't see it being a problem. Would have been nice if they get a groom before refreezing though.

Ask Mark about his hood

Hint: It had a slight argument with AllSeasons back bumper, guess who won?

Yeh,

Buddy Mark put some Skidoo lipstick on my back bumper. Glad my heavy Yamaha is built strong and brakes work really well. Unfortunately the Skidoo didn't fare as well.

Sounds like my sleds abrupt introduction to the back of Mathews sled last year.

Thanks for the info Wink! I'll remember that he has a tendancy to do that if we go up this w/e and I'm following him!

His Doo wanted to go and that damn sherman tank of yours stops all the time. The gas is on the right Smitty. I think you have been spending too much time behind the wheel of the estrogen wagon. Adam always told me there was a reason he followed so far behind you...

Yeah Kenny,

Adam has to follow far behind because he doesn't add enough milk to keep up!

I know where the gas is and also where the brake is. Them there Ski-don'ts are nice but the Yammy is nicer.
