Default Brushing & Signing 2008

Dates have been set for the 2008 major brushing & signing.
Dates are Oct 18th & 25th. Meet 8am at the Super 8 on US-2 in St. Ignace.
Rooms discounts will be available at the Super 8 & Budget Host for those helping out.

We can use all the help we can get for this. The Forrest service has again removed all of the signs & posts in FFS land, which will be a ton of work to put back up. On top of that, the ATVs have destroyed the majority of signs on the RR grade from St. Ignace to Trout Lake. Combined this is over 1/2 of the total signs on our trails!
Of course, there are also always trees to be killed too!
Post up here, or PM me if you are interested in helping out,

Looks like we will have a few guys for this weekend. We plan on forming 3 signing crews, and concentrating on that this weekend. If we have enough guys, we will send out some brushers too.
If heading this direction, I will recommend either the Super 8, or the Budget Host. Both are giving large discounts for guys coming up to help out. Tell them that you are coming up to work with the club when reserving or checking in, and they should get you a good deal.
Sat morning Club Breakfast at the truck stop on US-2, 7am. Workers meeting at Super 8 next door for assignments for the day. We generally plan on working until darkish, then cleaning up and meeting at Timmy Lees Pub for dinner and drinks. (There Will be club specials as well) Saturday lunch will be on your own this year, as the club will be picking up dinner. You should probably plan on having to pack the lunch as the crews will be not be near any towns this weekend for the majority of the day.
See you there,
-Neil

Well we had a smallish, but good work crew last weekend. Thugs were headed up by Dave Swope, and Jim Krug who ended up forming 1 large group that took care of the brushing and signing in one pass. The Western trails are done - so that is 1/4 of the total job. There is still lots of work on the RR grade to be done, so we will try to make a dent next weekend. Apparently the 'frank-en-trailer' that I built for signing was a big hit, and worked super great. We are now on the lookout for one more that we can modify into another signing trailer.
Pics and names of the work to come soon.

We had a smallish crew last weekend that kicked butt. They put together a brushing/signing combo crew that took care of the Western 25% of our trails. That leaves 75 miles to do this weekend - if possible. Those that are coming up, please PM me with your name, # of people you are bringing, and Cell #, so I can compile a plan for this weekend. We need to get as much done as possible.

A couple more pics.

Dave and I primarily signed, but occasionally we found something to destroy, a.k.a. top pic. Wouldn't want to have the wing on the drag hit that, now, would we????

Well we had a great crew hammer out some good work over the weekend. A long day, and I am still a bit sore in the shoulders from running the pole saw all day. From what I hear, if I could have gathered all of the troupes at the end of the day, stood on a stool and looked across the crowd, I would have a great smile across my face. Why? This crew shall be deemed the "clear cutters" See some of you thought that I was crazy in past years for opening up the trails like I do, but apparently many have seen the light. "TAKE THE WHOLE TREE" was this weekends battle cry!

Seriously - great work over the last 2 weekends guys. We can't express how much it is appreciated. Most know that the club actually in St. Ignace is quite small as far as the number of active workers is concerned, and it is work weekends like this take make great trails in this area possible.

Now for all that worked, especially the first timers - here is your curse: All winter, you will continually ride down the trail and inspect, and admire your handy work. Problem is you will also critique it, saying to yourself "boy we could have used another sign there", or "why didn't we cut THAT tree." Don't worry, it is a good curse to have.

Pat, we are actually only about 1/2 done. We don't have any other major work weekends scheduled at this time. It will be discussed at the meeting tomorrow night though to see if we need another. Typically, over the next few weeks guys will be going out when they have time, during off days, and during the day when they are out at hunting camp. If you or anyone else would still like to help out, PM me and I will see what we can do. It would likely be in a small 3 man crew, and worked around the schedules of those involved.
