Default Iron Bridge Deck Replacement

Well it is finally going to happen. Time to get that old bridge fixed up the right way.

Contractors: Please place a bid via our PO Box. If you have any questions you can e-mail me through our website.

Just to clarify, the project to to replace the existing deck with new decking and handrails. It also includes a deductive alternate for the painting portion of the project. If bids come in too high to do the entire project, then we will delete the painting portion and proceed with the decking.

See the links at the www.straitsareasnowmobileclub.com homepage to download the plans (You do not have to pay the $40 to UPEA if you can print them yourself.)

Is this the bridge that had the railings wrecked several times last year?

There was more than one bridge with "wrecked railings" (say that fast 10 times) last year!

Ya, this is the bigger bridge about 5 miles North of Moran on the RR Grade. I know we were supposed to do this project this summer, so we didn't go through big expense to fix the railings last year.

Bids have been received, and they cam in low enough to do the Decking, we are checking with the DNR, and may be doing the paint as well. Final award should be this week.

Bridge contracts are signed. Congrats to J.A.N. Development of Lapeer. The owner has a cabin in Curtis, so is happy to be helping out a snowmobile club where he sometimes rides.
All the material is ordered, and construction should begin in about 2 weeks, and should take about 2 weeks to complete. Will be nice to finally get it done!

The bridge project is progressing quickly. The iron is all painted, and the wood decking is in place. The railings are going up now. Things should be all finished up in a week or so. Great to see this much needed project moving along.

The job is all done, and it look fantastic. Can't wait to put it to use this winter. As part of the design, we had the contractor install heavy rubber mats on the decking to safeguard the wood from the studded tracks, which cause an amazing amount of damage. With the mat down, it usually is no longer a problem!

Neil, bridge looks good.

You'll have to make sure Toddmeister has a twelve pack of mountain dew with him so he doesn't bump into the bridge in the middle of the night!

Great looking bridge Neil. Wish I could have gotten that far last Saturday to see it for myself. Let's see -- at .53 MPH I would have only had to keep going north another 4 hours or so to get there. Don't know if there was enough fuel for that

Super job on the bridge, Neil!!! It looks a heck of a lot better than most bridges on the highways around here. Can't wait to see it this winter.

Well the railings look good and heavy duty.

They look like they could even withstand famouseguy if he gets all kittywampase from all those trail side hot dogs when he passes over the new carp river bridge.

And Neil just wondering if its not a secret , how much did that project cost?

Not secret, it is public info if you know where to look.

$7,500 engineering cost.
$49,000 construction (paint & decking).

+ a bunch of the clubs time for organize and review everything.
