Cherrywood is a nice place with a bar on site.

Been a long time since I was there but the Driftwood is right in the heart of the trail system. Bar/restaurant and gas on site. Rooms aren't as nice as Cherrywood. Driftwood used to be the happening trail bar in the Munising area.

I booked Cherry wood lodge for 2 nights and Ramada in Houghton for 2 nights. I hope we can make the trip to Houghton from munising in one day

Shouldn't be a problem. Depending on the route now, 170 - 200 miles. The problem at one time was getting from Chassell to Houghton. They lost the lease to part of that trail. Not sure if that got taken care of or not. If you're brave (or crazy) and Portage lake is frozen, you can ride that from Chassell to Houghton and save a lot of miles. I would only do that in daylight.

If you've never been to Houghton before, you really should go south one day through Southrange and take the Bill Nichols trail across the RR trestles. Pretty neat ride.

Yes, if you go thru Mass City, coming or going, on your way to Houghton, I believe you will go over the Firesteel Bridges.

The Buckhorn is nice, accommodations are comfortable good food and bar on site. easy access to trails east west north and south. not too far to Christmas -Foggy's has great steaks. You are about halfway between the two access trails into Munising and Wetmore.

This is good. When I mentioned the Driftwood above, I meant the Buckhorn!!!!! Great pit stop.
