Default Website Upgrades

Over teh next year I have some big plans for teh club. One of which is a new website. The people that come here are important is so many ways. I would like as many as possible to post up on this thread and tell me what you want to see in a web presence. Don't be politically correct - I know our main page currently sucks, so just tell me everything that you think would be great to incorporate into a new page.

Currently, I have no plans on discontinuing this forum. The software is badly out of date, and will have to be upgraded for security, and hopefully it will be much more mobile friendly af the upgrade.

Something that I just found, and I think is way cool is the LIVE camera on the trail: https://www.youtube.com/user/switalski12/live Is this something that you would like to see in our area? Or more to the point worth the expense?

Lets start by tossing everything out that you would like to see, or have seen on other pages (provide links if you have seen it elsewhere) And we will prioritize everything and do what we can and add things in as funds become available.

If you find a page layout that you are in love with post up the links. I want to see comments from both regulars but also those who are really new, and those who hardly ever post. I'M TALKING TO YOU LURKERS!! Come out and please give me some ideas.

Thanks in advance, and lets get a good conversation going!

Could we get a trail cam via John Dee? Might save some money.

I'm not on many forums but DooTalk has to be one of the best out there, nothing to do with brand, but a great forum

I agree with Wink.

Doo-Talk has it all.

I would use that site as your bench mark. No sense in trying to re-invent the wheel.

Keep the site PG rated. Do not let it get out of hand like HCS where you are continually attacked..

You mentioned the expense of doing this--Maybe post some type of address where members could/would contribute some dollars. I know I would be willing and could take pride in having made nice improvements to a site that benefits the sledding community and beyond.

Keep all of the ideas coming you guys. The forum software will definitely be upgraded, but I also need to know what you want to see on a front homepage.

BTW, I forgot to call attention to it, but if you look at teh bottom of the page, about 2 weeks ago we surpassed 1 million page views on just the forum!

I wouldn't mind at all if you sold some ad space to local businesses only. it could help offset any web costs. No video crap, just plain ads from local hotels, restaurants, etc. it would give them a chance to offer some discounts and incentives.

Maybe a link for a trail map of the Straits system with road names so people who aren't familiar with the area will know where any problem areas, etc. are located when we post about them.

Well that is a product of my trying to type fast. Auto correct no longer catches it for some reason, and sometimes I don't have time to go back to fix it.

You take da bad with da good around here.

I'm in agreement with Wink too! I'm sure I could do a web cam from Brevort with the White Tail being sponsored.

Maybe this is just a personal issue and you folks can help but I have an issue with unread posts. When I click on the unread posts in the top right it will tell me sorry no unread posts when I see 20 or so. Then I have to go back and go to each link and look at the latest dates to see all the recent info. Little annoying but I manage lol. Since we are on the topic though I figured I would ask.

A live trail cam would be nice to see in that area for us guys down here in Indiana and Ohio area so we could see how trail conditions look like before heading up there. As I do watch the new one that is north of Gaylord quite often.

You have my vote for a live TrailCam. We have really enjoyed the one on trail 7 North of Gaylord. We would be willing to contribute, and pretty sure many others would too. Thanks..

THis forum software is severely out of date, and isn't 10% compatible with the newest browsers, and certainly isn't mobile friendly. THat option you are referring to is actually a hack that I installed as an extra feature cause I liked it. It used to be fine, but now only works for me about 50% of teh time too. I do not have a solution except the forum upgrade which will have to happen in the next year.

I normally monitor about a dozen snowmobile club websites and Facebook pages throughout the winter. the stuff of importance to me is the groomer reports, what trails are really like and weather conditions. I like the links to local restaurants and lodging but in your case I own a place near Brevoort. My preference is for a Facebook page over a website but some clubs do both. I do like the forum and have followed it for several years. whatever you do make sure to keep posting pictures and announcements about activities.
