Default Warm weather

From what I'm reading and seeing on weather we are considering cancelling our trip from the 22nd to the 28th.
How do you guys feel about the upcoming weather and is there enough snow on the ground to get through it

You can look at the 10 day forecast. It is downright scary for snow. Above freezing every day, and some rain next week too. Just barely below freezing at night will help, but I don't know how much.

I don't want to tell you to cancel, because there will in all likelihood be some decent riding out there - and probably next to zero traffic, but I will also say I may also do zero grooming for teh next 10 days trying to preserve what we have out there and we will be ready when it decides to get cold again.

Do what you feel good about, and if this is your only chance then by all means get out and ride. I also think that most of the state will have to be traveling by trailer to find snow by the 28th.

Thanks for your input
How much snow is on the ground now and when will you be doing your next report?

Are you planning a backpack trip or staying in one spot and riding? There is plenty of snow right now but if this weather moves a few degrees one way it could be very nasty real quick.

I would think you will be ok for the beginning but there are so many different models showing different things you could run into some trouble later in teh week especially getting in and out of towns.

This is a very tough call. I have rode as far west as Grand Marais, Seney Big Springs, and Shingleton last weekend and there is plenty of snow and it can handle some rain. As I said I would worry about getting in and out of town if we get the rain and warm temps and also if it gets as warm as some say I would worry about clubs not grooming and how bad the trails might get beat up by some traffic. Very hard decision.

Question Re: Warm weather

The heavy traffic this coming weekend and the clubs not grooming at night is what concerns us so we will probably look to do it later if weather cooperates
Thanks

We are staying at the bavarian hause in St Ignace.
Is there enough snow on the trail to get from hotel to main trail?
I would assume as we go north toward munising the snow is going to get deeper.

With the warm up you will grind a bit but you should be ok. The snow will get deeper when you get north of 28 Newberry. Like I said there is plenty of snow around there once you get out of town. Rexton, Trout lake etc has a bunch more than you will see in town. Like I said I worry about getting into towns for you and also the low lying areas when your traveling. There are some low swamps west of Isphmening that will be a bear to get through if it gets real warm and water starts running. I just looked at a post by the national weather service and most towns out west were at or above 40 yesterday. Copper harbor was at 38 and that was about the lowest. Hope this helps.
