Default Trail Conditions 1-17-17

What a fantastic weekend around here. I hope you all had time to get out and shred things up causee the upcoming forecast in NOT GOOD for most of the state.

Starting the weekend trails were in absolutely fantastic shape. Enough snow cover and highway flat made for some fantastic riding. The traffic was crazy out there on the North end of the system, which means most riders were not leaving from Iggy, but coming in from outside the area. Particularly the Caffy heading to Rexton was seeing heavy traffic and got trashed more than once. Nothing a big John Deere can't fix.

Today the trails are in very good condition, however it is starting to rain here. The forecast for teh coming 10 days is very bad, warm temps and occasional rain. What we want/need to see if overnight freezing temps - if it stays above freezing at night, I fear we may actually begin to loose some trails. If it stays cold enough we should be OK, but certain places - IE the RR grade will likely degrade into an ice base again.

It is this forecast and the current soft state and snow levels as to why I am seriously downgrading the trail status from excellent to fair/poor. We don't really want anyone on teh trail right now as it will cause some pretty serious damage and will hamper the opportunity to get things quickly fixed back up when it gets cold again next week. YES, NEXT WEEK is when the weather morons are saying this warm snow will end, not this weekend - NEXT WEEKEND. What happened to our fairly normal winter???

In the meantime, shine up those sleds, grease things up and sit tight for awhile, we still have some good times ahead this year - just gotta get through a rough patch first.

To give you a pick-me-up here are a couple shots from the trails on Saturday. AND a fairly rare meeting of groomers. People want to know why the Burma grade is so popular? This is why - when you have two 14' drags meet, and there is a groomed 26' wide trail behind them. Groomer drivers Ken and Mike took a short break to snap a pic.

Nice--Very nice

As I have said before--I have ridden all over the State of Michigan and the trail grooming and maintenance that the Straits Area guys/gals do is second to none.

BEST IN THE STATE.

Wanted to get UP there this past weekend but circumstances did not allow. AllSeason's sled along with mine are now in the shop awaiting repairs.

AllSeason's suffered major oil leakage due to hole(s) in the block

Mine is also in the shop to have new sticks installed...he tried to ventilate mine the balance of the weekend without success.

Eh, I don't think the ole B&S is capable of 190 ponies with the puffer...

But yeah, Jeff and I are not happy campers this week...

At least my Viper is still running...new rod kit supposed to be in this week...

The rod recall on the sleds was official last Thursday BTW.

Well anyways I still have the 12 Vector to take UP to ride if/when the weather cools back off and ole man Winter decides to come back.

Don't look like we will be riding this weekend. The forecast for the entire state sucks! Oh well guess I go up and wax the sleds for the following weekend. Gonna be a bunch of beer consumed in the garage.

Todd I told Smitty he should of brought that thing to Iggy. I'm sure I could have gave yours a similar hole so you could of got a new power plant

Not a bad idea as long as the replacement motor has the updated rods!
