Default Trail Conditions 2-29-16

Trails over the weekend were serviceable, smooth, but icy. That is all in the past. This morning we awoke to this strange white stuff in the air and the ground, I hear it is called snow. 2" on the ground now, with another 2-3" on the way right now. Good moisture, sticking to the ground real life snow! We desperately needed it too. Now we should have some cover for those table-top smooth trails bases that were created last week.

Things are finally looking up. No need to run the groomers until the snow stops, so later tonight, or tomorrow will pack it down.

Not sure if this will bring the RR Grade in Moran back or not, but it will be close.

This fresh stuff will be all the difference.

Great news! This weather is crazy. It was snowing and 20 when we left yesterday and by the time I hit Grayling it was 54. Made it home to 64 and sunny. Went to pick up Skidoodude from teh airport at 11 last night and it was 52. Wild winter.

First groomer report says a solid 3-4" of good snow in Iggy & Moran and 6"+ on the end of the Cedarville trail. Groomer was just able to cover the RR Grade at Hay lake, but not enough for the 1/2 mile South of Moran, it was too wind-swept there. Everything with some tree cover is excellent, the open areas are very good.

More reports when I get them...

It is the first of March, and we should have 4 weeks of riding yet. Traditionally we are done the second week of March, and can eek out another weekend. Occasionally, we have extended good riding into April.

This year with ElNino, things are different.

Those who are looking at planning their end of the season, may want to take a look at NOAA week out forecast:

Quote:
LONG TERM...(FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY)
ISSUED AT 335 AM EST TUE MAR 1 2016

THE ONLY AREA OF POTENTIAL CONCERN THROUGH THE EXTENDED PERIOD
ARRIVES EARLY IN THE WEEKEND WITH A PRONOUNCED SHORTWAVE SET TO RACE
EAST ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES ON SATURDAY. LOOKS LIKE ALL AREAS WILL
HAVE THE CHANCE TO GET BACK INTO AT LEAST SOME LIGHT SNOWFALL BEFORE
CONDITIONS CLEAR SUNDAY.

THE OTHER MAIN STORY AND ONE THAT WARM WEATHER LOVERS WILL BE
EXCITED TO HEAR...UPPER LEVEL RIDGING BEGINS TO BUILD INTO THE
CENTER OF THE COUNTRY EARLY NEXT WEEK...BECOMING CENTERED OVERHEAD
BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. THIS WILL BRING MUCH WARMER TEMPERATURES
STARTING MONDAY...DARE I SAY FOR MORE THAN A DAY OR TWO? AS IT WAS
SAID YESTERDAY...THIS LOOKS LIKE IT MIGHT BE THE FINAL WEEK TO TAKE
ADVANTAGE OF MOST (IF NOT ALL) WINTER RECREATION AS NEXT WEEK`S
WARMTH WILL CERTAINLY MELT THE SNOW PACK.

Groomer report from last night, trails are in very good to excellent condition. We got another inch yesterday, Moran is now covered, but still very very thin. Hay lake is barely rideable. Everything else is fantastic.

Forecast for this weekend is creeping up on the temps again. Warm temps are gonna play havoc with the trails again. Ride them while you can!

I'm willing to bet this is the last weekend of riding unless we get a pop up 16" snowstorm after next week's warm temps and rain. See you this weekend... Hopefully it's not the last.
