Default Trail Conditions 1-28-16

Here we are the last weekend in January and it looks like December out there. Low snow conditions, and still warm for the most part. Last nights 3-4" of system snow turned out to be less then 1" of mostly sleet type snow. It didn't hurt us, but no morning surprise either. ALL of the ice left the bay this morning. Give it another 2 weeks of this, and expect no ice bridge this year, and the boats to run all season. Arnold line, and the Shepler's freight are running daily trips with all the construction this winter.

Trails took a hit last weekend, but the Tuesday snow fixed them right up with 3-4" of nice wet stuff. Everything groomed right back up to where it was a week ago, so those conditions will be about the same as this weekend. The only problem areas are the pipeline on #471 South of Brevort Lake is thin, and also #2 out in the Moran area - thin with some rocks mixed in. Everything is passable though, and we sent the groomer out on the RR Grade while it was warm to smash the wet stuff down and smooth out the stutter bumps that developed.

We do have some logging going on, but it isn't really effecting us. They are plowing the entirety of Castle Rock road, (the Souteast end of #471) and the Eastern Mile of the Burma grade (Trail #2, at #47) and maybe a mile right in the middle of the Cut River Trail, between Brevort & Epoufette (#473 near the Prout Rd). The pipeline South of Brevort Lk (on #471) is a bit thin, but passable. There are also a few rocks that got mixed into the snow in the Moran area, nothing to worry about, everything is passable and in good condition.
(You can pick out these areas on V&V Maps on MSA Site: http://www.vvmapping.com/trails/miSn...gnace_1748.pdf

OK, this coming weekend will be good, however the forecast temps are in the 30s, which is going to make it tough on the trails. I think you will finally see a few corners get blown out and the stutters return on the RR Grade. We will groom it up again on Saturday evening, so Sunday will be good to rip it up again. A wild guess is that we will again need more snow next week to fix things up, but the way this season is going, get out and enjoy it while you can.

Few flurries in the air today, nothing major. Dozen sleds by the office, most I have seen in a while.

I talked to the USFS about leaving some more snow on the Castle Rock and Burma trails. Hope they cooperate.

Iggy groomer is out right now...

Let's hope it arrives with a vengeance, and leaves some much needed white gold. After this weekend's temps, looks like you could use it.

Cold this morning, trails firmed up perfectly overnight, will be a good evening of riding for sure. I have heard that some hunters keep driving on the Cedarville trail, not sure when we can get back there to groom that chunk so if you are heading that way you may encounter a few miles of garbage.

Forecast is for quite warm temps over the weekend, be aware that the trails are going to get trashed. We will do our best to get them fixed back up.

WARNING: Many of you know that pond hockey in St. Ignace is coming up in a few weeks. Mother nature has not cooperated at all, consequently the organizers may be building rinks around and North of the Ice Rink in St. Ignace. PLEASE STAY OFF any are being prepped for hockey, it is a huge deal in this town, and it is going to be tough to pull it off as it is, without people trashing the rinks during construction. The rinks may be partially built onto the trail North of the Ice rink. There will be a very short re-route around and in-between the rinks, please follow the barrels and STAY ON TRAIL!!!!!
