Default Trail Conditions 3-31-14

The official last day of the season is upon us. Temps and forecast are just now starting to look like spring may happen... someday.

Trails are still in very good condition. There was a huge ton of traffic on Saturday with more trailers in Iggy then we have seen in a very long time. Trails for the most part held up OK. Things are getting loose and sloppy in a few areas for sure, but there is still 12"-24" of base out there with over 24" in the woods.

The forecast for this week is finally going to knock some of our snow down. The warmer March sun has taken its toll on all of the paved roads. I am going to guess that by the end of the week the plowed roads, such as East Lake Rd will be showing gravel. The trails themselves should hold for the coming weekend though. We are supposed to get some rain tonight, and maybe on Friday.

Quote:
Today Partly sunny, with a high near 43. East wind 10 to 15 mph.
Tonight Showers likely, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Tuesday Rain showers likely before 10am, then rain and snow showers likely between 10am and 2pm, then snow showers likely after 2pm. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 33 by 5pm. Breezy, with a southeast wind 15 to 20 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday Night Scattered snow showers before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 18. West wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Wednesday Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 18.
Thursday Mostly sunny, with a high near 33.
Thursday Night A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24.
Friday Rain and snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36.
Friday Night A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a low around 26.
Saturday A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37.
Saturday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.
Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 39.
If you are looking to squeeze in one or two more rides, then the opportunity will be there. It has been a really good season around here for riding, but it is still holding on. You are still legal to ride all of the Straits trails after today- no worries. Check back later in the week, and I will post up current conditions and a mini season wrap-up.

On our trails (South of Trout Lake) it is. Stuff in the USFS lands is (alot between Trout Lake & Brimley).

I don't know if there is any private stuff North of Trout Lake that you need to worry about. I sent a message to the DNR last week and I am awaiting word to see if I can get info from other Clubs.

Should be, I talked to a guy who road the RR Grade yesterday and it was fine. We got a little rain on Tuesday, and then just a skiff of snow last night. Everything is froze up hard again today. Some places are starting to call for a couple of inches of snow on Friday - we will see I guess.

For the most part, with all the info I have right now, the weekend riding will be fine.
