Default Trail Conditions 1-15-14

Good news, the little storm that we were supposed to get dumped a good 5-6" of workable snow onto the majority of our system. We were able to get about 80% of the trails leveled out before it hit, and will start packing things in more today. Overall the trails are in really good condition. Don't fear running anywhere on our system.

Mackinac Island treeline is up and being used. Proceed with CAUTION.

Waterhole on RR Grade up by Trout Lake is FIXED. Signs will remain for now.

Red Creek Road, on teh Cedarvill connector (trail #47) is being totally closed, with no re-route this week from 7am to 11am. It should be open after Friday.

Groomer update: #5 is down with engine problems. Lowboy is picking up tomorrow, and will will in all likelihood loose it for 2 weeks for repair, assuming parts are available. They don't know for sure what happened, but the cylinders are at 75% compression, and one is down to 15%, and we are loosing oil. The groomer drivers are doing a very good job at handling our system with only one machine, however there will be times when outer trails like the Cedarville and Rexton connectors will have to go ungroomed for 3-4 days. Please be understanding and thumbs up a groomer when you see them - as it probably has been running for 18+ hours!

Forecast for the coming days hints at some more snow, between 2-4", and a really nice weekend for a ride. We are heading into the heart of the season, time to lay down some miles!!

We got another few in of snow, and the whole South end was panned down thanks to Wyane.

No time to type this morning, but trail conditions are FANTASTIC.

I know cause I was on a sled last night. (Que the sarcastic comments)

Oh, I wouldn't be too sure about that. It was only 2 miles though. Put 18 on today, but not on our trail.

I can certainly imagine having an interesting ride UP last night. I had a farm show in Fort Wayne this week. What should have been an hour and 15 minute drive home last night turned into a 2 hour and 45 minute adventure. Black ice on US-30 had people spinning out. A tractor/trailer had either slid off or jackknifed and had both eastbound lanes shut down. Sat there for a good hour without moving. Heading UP tonight, and hoping the drive is less eventful. Can't wait to get back on the trails!!!

Another 1" of good topping snow will be panned down today. Forecast for the weekend is very good. Things should be about perfect for Saturdays ride. Not sure if we can get when whole system groomed out for Sunday or not. We will try.

Hearing that Trout Lake is seeing the most sleds this season, by far. Trails will likely take a beating. We will do our best to get it smoothed back out, but it may be Monday before things are fixed back up again.

Update on #5: lost a piston and having the engine rebuilt. Hopefully will be back next Friday or so.

Just got back last night, trails were awsome. On Wed. rode from Cut River to the big interesction of the Railroad grade and Castle Rock with 6" of fresh snow, making first tracks and did not see one sled! There was a goof ball on the railroad grade with his truck and hunting dog, I was going to take a picture of his license plate but was covered with snow. A BIG thanks to all the groomer drivers working so hard for us!
