You will find plenty of snow and smooth trails all through our system this weekend. Groomers are running at Max capacity, and I have been scheduling extra runs in whenever I can get a guy to go. Both groomers will be out over the weekend, and we will try to keep up with the anticipated high traffic.

It is a little warmer today, about 30d. This will help pack down the existing Snow, and keep it on the ice base. St. Ignace only got about an inch from yesterday, but every little bit helps.

The groomers will do their best to keep up with you this weekend, but please remember, there is a slick Ice base under that snow. The inside of the corners will get tore up this weekend, and will likely become slick, so watch for those bare Ice spots.

So head on UP ! If you see a groomer out there give him a big thumbs up, :thumb: and let him know you check out the website. :type: Don't forget to come back and tell us how you trip was, we love pics too!

:censored: Hazards: The water hole up by Rexton I have been talking about, has frozen over, and sleds are traveling it, however, Groomer Dave said he will likely go around this hole for the rest of the season, just too great a risk of burrying the machine. So, you will find this 100 yard section up by H-40 rougher than the rest of our system, as it will be un-groomed.

:censored: New Hazard: I have a report of some loose RR Ties on the "Iron Bridge" This bridge is on the RR Grade, North of the Burma Grade, and South of Trout Lake. It is the largest bridge on our system, and is marked by bridge signs. Please proceed with caution over this bridge, and try to stay in the center area until I can get it checked out over the weekend.

And you thought that we were having a strange winter...

From www.wunderground.com (http://www.wunderground.com) ... On this date in weather history...

In 1943... the blackhills of South Dakota experienced
crazy temperatures. It was 52 degrees at Lead, South
Dakota... while at the same time it was 16 below zero at
Deadwood. Only one and a half miles separate the two
towns.
In 1954... the temperature at Rogers Pass Montana
plunged to 70 below zero. This established a new all
time record low for the Continental United States.
In 1978... a paralyzing noreaster produced a record 21 inches
of snow in Boston... while Rhode Island received between
15 and 20 inches. Pennsylvania was buried by snowfalls
of 1 to 2 feet. Along the Connecticut coast... winds
gusted to 70 mph.

Went out for a 110 mile ride today on the Straits club's trails. One word - EXCELLENT!!!! This club is doing one helluva great job grooming considering the winter we've had so far.

Rode out of St. Ignace to Castle Rock Rd. Headed northwest and went to Bayside Inn Restaurant at Cut River for lunch. Went from Cut River up to Rexton on the TASA trail, it was in pretty good shape with some dirty corners due to less snow. Made a loop around Rexton, took the south trail back to the Burma Grade, headed east to the RR grade, headed south and took the east trail 47 towards Cedarville for a while, turned around and came back to Moran, gassed up there and headed south on the RR grade back towards St. Ignace. A very nice ride today, lotsa snow in da trees, temps about 32 or so.
I've been waiting a LONG time for a ride like this......

Much thanks to all da groomers!!!!!!

And of course I left my camera at da motel, but will take some pics tomorrow and post em when we return tomorrow nite.

Sweeeeet! :cool2:

Our President, Jim D. from the Super 8 here in St. Igance took the groomer out early early this morning, so the RR grade should have been real nice for the morning ride.

I am headed to TC first thing in the morning, so, I wil see you guys on Monday. Hopefully, I will be getting my sleds out then!

Well we went out today and rode to cut river in the morning and it was great. We made the mistake of not listening to Neil and headed east to hesell and that was not good. What ever you do do not go east. Lots of mud holes and unfrozen swamps. The straits trails were awesome!!! Well will give a new report tomorrow.

Just got back to clinton. Rode 230 miles for the weekend. 30 on friday night when we got in and 200 on saturday. Trails were fantastic everywhere we went. Rode to trout lake, rudyard, raco, strongs and back down to trout lake thru rexton to the cut river and back st.ignace. What a ride. Only bad spot was riding from the rodeway in to the trail head other than that a great ride.

Just wanted to thank all the groomers and all of their hard work on the trails - it really paid off when the snow finally came. Six of us came up Friday and stayed in St. Ignace - 2 rode early afternoon and had a good ride and three of us rode at night - put on 69 miles from St. Ignace to Castle Rock to Trout Lake and back the rr grade (little bumpy). Saturday we all rode (my parents who are in the young seventies also) 113 miles from St. Ignace, went west on Castle Rock to Cut River to Rexton then to Trout Lake and back the same way. The Rexton to Trout Lake route was pretty bumpy along the rr grade and even though we ran into the groomer twice - and followed him - parts were still bumpy but not due to the groomer. He could only do so much with what he had. We had the best ride ever both days and plan to come up again next weekend and already have reservations in for both the Feb and March poker run. Got about 6-7 couples coming for the Feb run. One of the signs to Cut River along the trail that goes from the power lines (pipeline) to the road is missing both ways. I'm not sure exactly the location - its a stretch that was getting pretty bare on saturday but you could still ride the sides. Coming back from Trout Lake, you make a left turn unto the trail from the road or you end up in Brevort Lake. My husband and I knew where to turn but the front 4 riders missed it. Again, a job well done to the groomers, there is no better place to ride then your trails.....

Here's a couple shots from Saturday, the 21st. These near intersection of trail 47 and 2. Had good-excellent trails all weekend. Trail 47 a little rough along Mackinaw Trail in wet area. First shot is coming up on groomer, then as we turned around to head back.

Keep up the good work!!! :cool2:
