WANTED: If you are from the Straits Area, and can donate 1 or more days a week, we need groomer drivers. Please E-Mail me with you contact info. Runs from either St. Ignace or Brevort are available.
Well, we made it through the weekend. Trails have been better, but then again they have been worse too. It did get cold on Friday night, and that firmed up the trails nicely. The gravel sections in Moran did not turn out as bad as I had feared, but I have not gotten a report up next to Trout Lake. We had 32 brave soles for the poker run, which isn't too bad considering. About 1/3 of them rode sleds, and they said it was not too bad at all. I will try to get a posting about the run later today or tomorrow in the Club News section.
The groomers are running. The RR grade has some ICY sections, and the rest of the trails had a crunchy layer on top, but have held up. They are still thin and in need of snow, but ridable if you would like. I recommend using caution at this time as the trails still have a few bad spots on them. I have heard, but not confirmed some gravel sections on the RR grade right up by trout lake, I will try to get this confirmed soon. The corners on the carp river TT got pretty torn up over the weekend, but groomer Dave will have them fixed in no time. Still a couple of bare spots on the trail surface on the pipeline, groomer Nick said is is going to try to get those cover this week. You can still easily get around that area. Also you can expect that water hole on the North end of the Caffey TT up by Rexton to be there just about all season.
Back to weather. They totally blew the forecast for around here again. Remember when we were supposed to get the huge winter storm? Well it was warm on Wednesday-Friday, got cold Friday night, and firmed everything up. It was in the lower 20s all weekend, and is 25d now, and very windy. We did receive a trace of snow last night, just enough to cover the grass again. We are supposed to get some snow on Tuesday night, but only 3", We will see.
