Things are just fine out there today. It got a lot colder last night, and has firmed things up nicely.
2 things to watch out for:
#1 Just west of the trail stop location, there were 3 large slush holes yesterday. I don't know if they completely re-froze last night or not. Use caution riding through there today. It should be just fine by tomorrow.
#2 Some idiot drove his truck out a couple miles of castle rock road, from the RR grade, yesterday. We could not get a driver to take an extra shift last night, so that area is currently rutted up pretty bad. The groomer will be heading out of St. Ignace this afternoon to take care of that. Just be aware that it is there - we will have it fixed up soon.
Town trail to US-2 is not in the best shape. It is ridable, but not in the great condition like it was up until last week.
More info can be found in yesterdays trail report:
http://www.straitsareasnowmobileclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=708
Everything still holds true, just that it is colder now, and we don't anticipate the weather tearing up trails.

Well we went for a ride today and things are pretty good. There are a few slush spots but over all very good and rideable. We had a great time and can't wait for tomorrow.

UPDATE:
Overall, trails are in quite good shape. Very Hard, and very fast. I did find problem area last night. The small section of trail #471 where you have to run also Brevort Lake Road, was rather tough last night. It is mostly gravel. You can kinda get down in the ditch, but sometimes just have to suffer. The groomer went through there after I rode by and was supposed to pull some snow in, but it was dark, and I could not see how much material he had to work with.
Off to setup the trail stop. Hope to see you there!

Another thing. Right at the intersection of trail 2 and 471 there is a slush hole. It should be froze over but be careful. Its right in the middle of the trail as you approach the truck trail.
Have a great ride today and if you see us make sure to say hi. We will have a group about 10 and there will be 2 guys wearing orange helmets. Were easy to spot:D

Here is a little green update: just did some more research with brother-in-law, now that I know all that JD knows about our two groomer tractors they dont seem like they are too bad (looks good on paper). I will mail this info with phone number to Neil as I do not know the total history of each machine.
I believe there has been more then 1 call on #5 and 5 calls on #6 with the last major claim on #6 not posted yet.
On a better note hope all had a great and safe ride today, sure the bent ski was a great time wish I was there
Tony Stewart wins nation wide race today for those who missed it.Was a great race even if a chevy won.:thumb[1]:

What a great time. The trails were pretty good most places and the bent ski classic was a huge success. As Wink said someone from our group would win and it happened. Randy(sledporn670) won on his 1st ever trip to the UP. He drew a natural royal flush. No wild cards. He won $200 for his efforts and we spent it in the bar:D Sheila continued her lucky ways and finished 3rd. I will post some pics as soon as I find my camera.:D

NO Pro, I told you about that look out last week.
It is on that loop trail between Raco and Brimley.
I think it is trail 889??

A few more pics from my grooming run last night.
Trails are hard and fast. A bit of granular snow on top of a heavy ice base. Plenty enough lubrication for your hyfax and sled cooling.
Trails are a little snirty in and around towns, but very passable. Out in the woods the trails are great.
These pics were taken at the intersection of Castle Rock rd and the Railroad Grade.
Last pic: Grooming in da Moonlight! :D
Oh, and those ruts on Castle Rock are now fixed...
No snow to pull in on Brevort Lake Rd, but it's not too bad.

See my post above yours, trails are in good condition. It was snowing around St. Ignace when we left for home this afternoon, so conditions may get even better.

hey thanks so much for this great opportunity Todd i had a blast and hope i can do this again :D
Another pic of Beano's mishap. Not picking on you Beano. A few of us overshot the turn off for the trail. The road we were on was almost all ice. Beano thought it was the perfect place for a "grab the brake, turn left, lean, and do a 180". He just forgot he was on a longtrack. Back end of the skid caught the snow on the dge of the road after about "90 of the 180". OOPS!!!!:banghead:
As seen, we have the manpower!!!!

I agree Wink. Not trying to pick on you Beano just have to show everytime the hoods up or something stupid happens.:smilielol In everyones defense that trail corner is very poorly marked. I don't know how the dnr passed that one.
Btw I had a blast riding with all you guys this Sat for the bent ski classic.

Danyele, Matt, and I had a great time riding and hangin' out with everyone this past weekend. I agree that corner needs better sigining for sure. My only regret is I didn't get to ride Dick Rd :smilielol Let's get together again soon.
