View Full Version : Saturday, 3/1 to Drummond Island
Friday nite my ol buddy Griz (Curt) ran the groomer for the first time. He and Keith did the Cedarville connector. Being the dedicated club member that I am, I felt it was only appropriate to go on that trail Saturday and check it out. I am still compiling my report and I will give it later. However, Griz, Skidoodude04 and I all went for a ride on it Saturday. We weren't sure how far we would go but it was a great day for a ride. We ended up riding all the way to Detour and taking the ferry over to the island. We only rode 35 miles on the island and decided we better head back. Because I had my directions screwed up we were late for the ferry and had to wait an extra hour.
Riding to the ferry and over to the island is something I always wanted to do and glad it finally happened. The trails on the island were very good although very icy underneath. It was neat to be out there. I would like to someday get a group together, ride over there and spend the nite so we could ride all the trails on the island and enjoy it. There are supposed to be 110 miles of trails there.
Anyway it was a great day. 90 miles there by way of Cedarville (lots of turns), 120 miles back by way of Pickford and Rudyard (lots more straight trails).

Glad you finally made your trip, and you were able to give Matt something to do besides caddy duty! I should have stayed in St. Ignace area to ride on Saturday too.

Did you ride from Big Springs to Wetmore? If so, how was it?

Wink and Curt, I can't thank you enough for taking Matt with you guys Sat. He had a great time and I'm sure something he will remember for a lifetime. He has never been over there and just heard Sheila and I talk about it. Well he talked about that trip the rest of the weekend.
It sure was great to meet you guys this winter and hopefully we'll have many winters to come riding together. Thanks again.

We also had a great time with you, Sheila, Matt and all the friends we met through you this year. I'm bummed:( that I can't make it UP any more this year. Stay in touch and maybe you can make a short trip down here. There are plenty of adult beverage stands around the lake we can get to by boat. Don't have too good of a time without us at the poker run.:smilielol

LOL.... He had a great time. I'm not so sure we will be able to get him back as a caddy if you guys are in town:)

Its just great we have this message board to meet new people and make new friends. I know personally Sheila, Matt and I have made some very good friends here and looking forward to making many more. Thanks Straits Area Snowmobile Club and espically Neil for all the work you guys put into maintaining this board for us to play on.

Did you ride from Big Springs to Wetmore? If so, how was it?
Cousin had daycare issues, so we got a late start and missed the groomer show, so just decided on going for a ride.
Went from Big Springs, to Manistique North across 28 to the Bear Track, then South and West a ways, and then South back to Big Springs. About 130 miles total. My cousins club in Manistique, a 7 out of 20, but on the North end (don't know the club) a 2 or 3 out of 10. Horrible to say the least. 2-3 moguls, DESPITE PASSING 3 GROOMERS. Only one of them was doing anything right, the other should not have even been in the machine. I don't want to be too harsh, but 2-3 foot moguls, not having the front blade down, and the front of the drag up is unacceptable. The corners are so bad they can't be fixed this season. You will never catch me riding up there again. And you guys wonder why I never rode off our trail system.

Wink and Grizz I had a blast on sat riding to the island for the first time ever! You guys are a blast to ride with and i cant tell you how much fun i had and am bummed the season is just about over. But this summer when we have a week off from racing we will deff have to come down and hang out on the lake with you guys im sure it would be a blast! Cant wait till next year to do some more riding with you guys! Thanks again for having me on the ride!!!:D
