Trails are rated at very good right now. Base is still holding at 8"-18" with even more in some spots. Off trail riding I hear is good too. We continue to get an inch or so everyday or so. And it has been quite cold around here, especially just North of town. The Mackinac Island boat is done for the season, with the airplane your only option for now. No ice bridge in the near future as I see it.
Grooming is continuing as best we can. We are having more problems with JD #6, and I am only letting our most experienced drivers run it at this point. Groomer Dave has covered the entire system, with the exception of the Cedarville connector in the last 48 hrs. He is returning that machine to St. Ignace later today.
Groomer #5 is currently in Big Rapids for repair. The good news is they promise me that it will be on a truck Friday morning bound for home. Bad news is, we decided to send #6 right back on that same semi to get it fixed once and for all. You see #6 has a personality, and a bad one at that. There has been an electrical gremlin in that machine since we took delivery, and it has gotten so bad that it is hard to get any work done with it at all.
We will continue to hot-seat the groomer as much as we can over the next week. We are still usually covering 85% of the trail each day. But with one groomer we are having to neglect either the cutriver, Caffey (Rexton) or Cedarville trail. Each of these trails will have either 2 or 3 days between groomes until further notice.
Hang tough folks, we still have great trails, and there is lots of snow, both on and off trail. Everything should be back to normal by Super Bowl Weekend.
Thursday is picture day, and I have nothing for you right now. Stop back after lunch and I will have fresh pics of an ungroomed trail, that way you can judge for yourself how things are going.
