OK folks.
I know this is a fairly new website/message board, but lets see if we can get to know each other a bit. We have over 60 members of the message board now, and many many more "lurkers" who drop in to check out conditions.
Reply to this message with your name, sled, and if you have rode in St. Ignace before, and plan on riding here this year.

I will kick it off!
I am Neil, born and raised in St. Ignace, and I am currently Club VP. I help with as much as I can, officially I am in charge of the Website, but I also work on DNR paperwork, and special projects.
My wife and I ride a pair of Ski Doo MXZ 583s.
I got 2 whole recreational rides in last year, and 1 was to map our trail system. I hope to get at least 1 ride a week after the first of the year.
Be sure to post/look in the looking for riders section if you are coming up!
Hope to see you here,

Hello we are new to the website, we visit the straits area quite often. We are going to be in the area and go to the casino for new years eve. Want to bring the sleds ( 2003 V-max600 mine, 1998 V-max500 wifes) but by the sounds of the trail conditions that we just might leave them home for this trip.:crying: Again thanks for the warm hello's and hope to see ya on the trails.

This is Dave (PolarisRider) from Bay City. We own property SW of Rudyard and make that base camp for hunting and snowmobiling. Wife (Cindy) and kids (Alli / Gerik) get out once or twice a year - but I'm the hardcore sledder of the group and get out most weekends.
We usually head North to Snowchaser country, but very pleased and impressed :cool2: with the progress of the Straits Area last year, and intend to spend more time down South. So ... sent in membership form and check for the family this week.
Also belong to the Snowchasers and Petoskey clubs.

Hello to everyone! I am from the Grand Rapids area. Myself Luke and my wife Robin have been riding in the U.P. almost exclusively since 96. We enjoy the Middle and Eastern U.P. the most.
My wife and I are both Snow Chaser members and enjoy Eastern U.P area alot. I continue to look forward to seeing the sport promoted and supported by the Straits area Snowmobile club and all the people who participate in it. We enjoy snowmobiling in and around the St. Ignace area. The people are courteous and always friendly.
I will say it again, the Cut River Trail is one of my favorite trails in the U.P. and I look forward to running it multiple times throughout the season. Keep on the lookout for two Black Renegades. You Can't Miss my wife Robin she lights up like a X-mas tree with her Orange FXR snowmobile suit.

Well, I am familiar with just about everybody that has posted so far. So you probably know me too. I don't know if that's good or bad :(
I can be found as Ron_W on many other boards around the web. My wife Jackie and I live in the Downriver area, s/o Detroit. We have been Snow Chasers for 6 years now, since year one. But I have been meaning to add to that for a while. And the job the Straits Area is doing is awesome, and they deserve our support also! We ride both systems, we should give to both right :conf:
We both ride Cats. I have a 2002 ZR800efi Black and she has a 2004 ZR900efi Black. I also have a BRIGHT ORANGE FXR outfit. If someone hits me they must be blind :help_wsig
I am a Senior Dyno Technician. I perform engine ECU calibrations and emissions testing on many dyno test beds. I work for an independent global powertrain development company. My wife is a Lease Manager at a Ford dealer. We have 3 great children, 16, 14 & 5. And they like riding too!
Thanks for all your efforts...TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS!!!

Hm, what to tell you...I am new to snowmobiling, as of just last winter. My husband took me to Grayling first, and snowmobiling was fun. THEN we went to St. Ignace, to visit our friends, Lance and Lori, and snowmobiling was a BLAST!! We now LOVE St. Ignace, and I really hate the thought of going anyplace else! Look for us!
We both ride Cats...I don't really know all the details. We usually stay at the same place, which I don't want to mention here, because I don't want everyone to get the rooms before we do!
Our home is in Flushing, just NW of Flint. I teach during the day and am Secretary to my husband's new venture: Atkinson Transportation. We bought a Semi this summer and are now running a business on top of everthing else. We have 4 teens/tweens, who have not come up with us, because I would like to meet the people who can afford to ride with a family of 6!! YIKES!!
Well, can't wait to see all of you. I am really hoping to get Chris in on some of those "guy rides"... We'll keep watching the board!
Good thing for the preview option, I never mentioned my name...It's Andrea...I'm the slow one on the trails, shaking my head at the crazies out there!!! Just kidding (we really haven't run into any CRAZY people...It just seems crazy to those of us who are new to the sport!!)
Howdy folks, I'm Rick and my wife is Peg. We are both retired teachers and new to snowmobiling. I think we are probably to blame for the lack of snow here in SW michigan as we bought new sleds in mid December and they are still parked in our new covered trailer totally unridden.:sorry2: We have '05Polaris 500 and 600 Classic sleds and are very much looking forward to riding up north this winter. This looks like a very friendly group and we'll probably see some of you around somewhere this winter.

Hi everyone- My name is Craig and I live in Waterford, MI. My family is from St. Ignace, I spent alot of time at my Grandparents on Church St. My family used to own the Hardware store/Lumber yard in St. Ignace ( currently Straits area Hardware) it was Hollingsworth Lumber when we were up there.
My wife Sandi and I have ridden the UP quite a bit but usually stay around Paradise. We ride Arctic Cats, mine is a green ZR600 and hers is a black ZL 500. The last time we stayed in town was a few years ago, I'm looking forward to this weekend.
I work at General Motors at the Hybrid Development Center as an Engineering Technician. Hopefully soon you will all be driving vehicles that we designed and built right here!
I hope everyone has safe rides and smooth trails, have a great season!

Hi, My name is Shaun, and my wife is Christy, we are from Ohio. After almost 30 yrs of riding a 1977 Ski Doo RV, I liquidated all the RV stuff and bought two 1980 Blizzard 9500’s and a trailer. Amazing what people will pay for an RV!! Blizz’s are cheap go fast sleds that so far, have done OK. Winter has abandoned us in Ohio, must be the price we pay for a Michigan win…….lol.
We just got back from a trip to Grayling and it went pretty good, but bumpy. This was my first trip back to MI in 20 yrs, and it was nice. Not to bad considering our vintage sleds. My wife is from Oklahoma and is new to snowmobiling, and wants to come back. She liked the RV and is getting used to the Blizzard.
I have made reservations at the Quality Inn for the 11th, but not sure how the snow will be up there??? Also, it looks like the Q Inn is relatively close to the trail start, is that true?? How much of a problem will be to get to the trails from there??
From this site and the pics the trails look much nicer than Grayling. Do you guys think the Blizz’s would do OK? We are bringing the kid’s this trip, and only have the two sleds to ride, but kids don’t weigh too much…lol…..one 14, one 10, so we should be OK that way.
Well give me a shout or a reply at stin30@yahoo.com. Nice board you have here thanks!!
Shaun and Christy.

Hello: My boyfriend and I are coming up from Kalamazoo this weekend to ride and I need a sled as mine is out of commission. Does anyone know of a reliable, resonable place to rent one? Thanks for helping. Also, I keep checking the trail report but was wondering if anyone knew first hand how the trails are? It's suppose to be 65 down in Kalamazoo this weekend with rain.

The Quality Inn in St. Ignace has sleds for rent in conjunction with the Fish & Hunt shop from Curtis. The Quality Inns # is 906-643-9700
There was another one in town, but I can not think of the name. If you don't have any luck with Quality, ask them and if they don't know post back on the message board, and I will see what I can find. I know other from the board have rented here before.

No one is saying hi, so I though that I would freshen this post up.
Newbies, don't be afraid to stop in, say Hi, or just chat about something, everyone is friendly around here.
Numbers are looking good this year, we have had 20+ new members just in the last week. (now if we just had some snow!) We broke 350 members on Tuesday, not too shabby!

Hi Sledders,
I'm Luke from a little town called New Lothrop. I've been snowmobiling for about 11 years now. Lately I don't get up there as much as I would like to but I try. I have a 1996 Ski Doo Formula 500 and a 2001 Arctic Cat Pantera 580 EFI. My wife doesn't ride as much as I would like, its just not her type of sport. Oh well I respect that so she lets me enjoy it as much as possible.
I just came across this site by accident, glad I found it though. I have a trip planned for next weekend to be in the area. I am staying at the Cedarville Inn.
BTW Hope to ring in on some issues with all you fine folks, Take care, Luke

Hi folks, I've been popping on and off this site for a year or so. I ride most of the time in the St. Ignace/Brevort area so this site has been very useful for me. My name is Jon and I live in the thumb area of lower Michigan on a small farm. I get my nickname 'masseyman' from the dozens of Ski-whiz sleds that my brother and I have collected over the years. I've been sledding all of my life since the late 60's/early 70's and started out on a Massey....still have the original in my barn, along with 2 '68 evinrudes we've had since new. I, my wife Jennifer and my two teenage children all ride Polaris now....'03 xcsp 500, '99 Indy trail, '98 Indy lite. Nice meeting all of you.

I've introduced myself on here before and I check up on the site quite frequently. I live down in Monroe, MI and I am fairly new to the sport. I got started about 2 years ago. The first year, I was finishing my degree and didn't have a lot of time to ride. Last year, I couldn't wait to ride St. Iggy and it never developed due to the lack of the white stuff! I did get to ride Gaylord(LP), Evart(LP), and Newberry(UP). Newberry was a blast once you got out of town but still wasn't the best riding conditions. Either way, we had a great time, it was just rough on the sleds which leads me in to the next topic; My machine(s). I have two that my girlfriend and I ride. Mine is a 2001 Polaris SuperSport 550 Fan with 3000 miles on it. My other sled (the one she claims) is a 1996 Polaris Indy Trail 500 Fan with 1900 miles on it. Both of them are great machines and proved to be an asset last year with the lack of snow and higher temperatures. I drive a 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II (Black) and I have a 1994 - 2 place covered Triton trailer (White) It's only Oct 15th and I'm getting the fever bad already!!!!!! I've been looking forward to the snowshow in Novi in a few weeks (www.snowmobileusa.com), and taking some time off of work to hit the trails. I really hope that things pan out better this year and that I can get up to ride St. Ignace like I planned to last year. I hope Mother Nature makes up with Old Man Winter and we can get things back to normal this year. Like I said before, I constantly check the trail reports on this site and look at what everyone has to say on the forums. I'd like to become a more active part of the club if time would permit, but right now it's just not possible. If things pan out this year I'd really like to meet some of you folks that are part of the club and enjoy all that St. Iggy has to offer. SNOW BABY SNOW!!! Everyone needs to start their snow dances now!!!!!

Hello,
My name is John TenBrink, I live in New Era Michigan
I ride an 04 Sabercat 700 LX.
I try to get to the UP to ride at least once a season. I've ridden everywhere in the eastern UP.
I like to ride groomed trails at a "brisk" safe pace. I am not too fond of off trail riding in really deep snow, but some logging roads and two tracks can be fun. I currently do not have any regular riding partners and would like to meet some people with similar riding styles to ride with.

Im Pat from Washington Twp. All my snowmobiling is out of Brevort. My wife and I love the trails in the area. It is by far the best groomed and safest trails I have been on. I have been all over on a snowmobile and I still feel the Straits/Brevort is home. We both ride Ski Doos but we have a Arctic Cat as a spare a Kitty Cat for my daughter and a Polaris 120 for my son. My goal is to start Grooming and get more involved with what it takes to keep our trails in such wonderful condition.

Hi all, my name is Jeff and I live in Macomb Township Michigan located in the northern suburbs of Detroit. My son Casey (Casey14 on this site), daughter Nicole, and myself ride the area around Brevort Lake. My wife Dianne doesn’t ride but sometimes makes the trip with us to keep us all in line, plus we really enjoy having Mom there. We’ll ride to Cut River, or Trout Lake. Sometimes we’ll venture over to Newberry, or occasionally we ride up to Paradise, or see the falls. My sister & brother-in-law, as well as good friend Rick have place’s on Brevort Lake, so we usually stay there or in Saint Ignace when we come up to ride. When we’re not sledding we're usually out ice fishing on Brevort Lake. We have all been riding for about five years and really love, and enjoy riding in the U.P. I myself ride a 04 Skidoo 600 Renegade X, Casey rides an 05 Arctic Cat 700 SnoPro, and Nicole rides a 01 Skidoo MXZ 700.

Hi All!
My name is Mark Madden, the wife and I live in Somerset, MI. We recently purchased property on Lake Huron, and plan to build and retire up in the UP! I purchased my first sled ever last year, a used (2003) Doo mxz, and rode the trails from St. Ignace to Cedarville and back...twice in the first day. The trails were so awesome and well maintained, I totally fell in love with sledin'. Now i'm hooked, and looking for my first trip up this year in the snow. I go in the middle of the week, and alone, so anybody wants to Head East on the trails...drop me a line - I'd enjoy the company...and safety.:D

Hi everyone,
Hi, I'm Jerry,I live in Troy, new to the site but not new to snowmobiling. I started riding back in 73 and have been gong since then. I just recently retired this summer as a firefighter and I have all kinds of time to ride. The problem is, why I was working it was hard to get time off from work as other guys also rode. Now that I have the time there is no one available. I rode most of the state and I like the St. Ignance area the best. Anyway, I plan on joining the club and I would like to meet some people to come up and ride with. So if anyone or any group would like would like an extra rider let me know. Thanks everyone, Jerry, Ski Doo, Yamaha triples. jkoz2002@sbcglobal.net

Hello to all of the snowmobilers. We are the Clifton Family from London Ohio. James, Cindy, Robert and Cory. We have a house in Moran Mi as well. We have been riding snowmobiles in the UP since 1981. We try to participate in all of the Poker Runs that the clubs offer. Robert and Cory really enjoy participating in these. We ride approx. 1800 miles a season. This is mostly coming up on the week-ends. Our children have been riding on their own since they were three years old. We all enjoy coming to the UP. It is a beatiful place to come and relax and get away.

Welcome to the site, James. It's nice to see some fellow BUCKEYES on here! My work travels take me through London quite often, so I'm cetainly familiar with your home base. There are a few of us on here (Wink, Griz, Con-fusion, and myself) that live about 80 miles NW of London. Please don't tell me you live at the correctional facility:smilielol

Hello,
I'm from Holly, Michigan. I'm a bit of a greenhorn to snowmobiling.
The only sled I've owned is a "79" Kawasaki Invader I use to ride around the property and check to see if the road is drifted over or not.
I work on it the rest of the time
I just bought a 2000 Ski-Doo Grand Touring sled. :D
Now that I have a "real" sled my wife I and want to trail ride in the U.P.
We love camping up there...well we love the U.P. so the plan is to camp in summer and ride in winter.
It's michigan right....that's what you do! Love Michigan:thumbsup:

Welcome to the Straits site. If you ride the St. Iggy area, you'll never want to go anywhere else. Awesome trails and some of the best people you'll ever meet.
Some of the people I've met there I now consider some of my best and closest friends.

Visited gaylord 4 wks ago and loved it.. Usually stay around the Cadillac/traverse city area..I make about 4-5 winter trips to MI.. Looking for some info on trails/hotels in the area around St. Ignace for this sunday 2-15-09.. I hope the warm weather GETS OUTTA HERE.. Thx so much for any help.. btw my sleds are registered in MI b'cuz my state doesn't recognize sleds in TN.. Imagine, a state that doesnt want your tax dollars.. l0l.. p.s. By the way, I have this vintage 1973 Lifeliner ambulance which I throughly love. Here is a before and a after picture. I bought it in Dec 2007 and have repainted it, got all the mechanics working, along with the lights and sirens. We used it in the local Christmas parade, local county fair, and now it will be at the grand opening of the visitors and convention center Feb 22nd.

Hi,
My name is Bob and I live in Williamsburg, near Traverse City. I moved back to MI in '05 after living in Virginia Beach for the previous 18 years. Snowmobiling sure has changed quite a bit in 18 years. Anyhow, I live close to the Grand Traverse trails and do quite a bit of riding in the Mackinaw , Pellston and Harbor Springs area. I have an '05 RX 1 Yamaha and a '97 Vmax 600 that I split my riding time on. My wife is a NC native and although she has adapted nicely to MI she would rather enjoy the beauty of the outdoors through a pane of glass, at least until the temps warm up. I would love to find somebody that knows the UP trails to join up with one of these weekends. Mainly around St Iggy. If you see a black RX1 on the trail with checkered graphics on the hood say hello.

This is Miles, a newby that lives in Grand Rapids but have a cabin in Paradise. Took a round trip from there to Cedarville, Trout Lake and back a few weeks ago. Paradise was packed as it was their Mardi Gras weekend, everybody in the U.P. must have been there because all the other trails seemed empty!
Matter of fact, going up again this weekend, wondering how the trails over that way are....the roads from Kinross to the south were pretty thin.

Hey everyone, My name is Adam. I live just east of Toledo, and for you who know where the davis besse nuclear power plant is I can see it from my back yard. I have been snowmobiling since I was young, not sure when I started on my own but I do remember riding with my dad on a John Deere LiquiFire to go ice fishing on lake Erie, so that has been at least 15 years ago. I am 21 now and don't ice fish anymore. I ride an '09 Skidoo MXZ X 800. I have been going up to the UP for about 5 years now and started officially trail riding on a '98 Mach Z 800. Last season was the first season I rode out of St. Ignace and I forever will be riding out from there. I used to stay in Newberry or McMillan, I may still stay there but I am going to drop in St. Ignace at ride up from there, why drive when you can ride right!
See you on the trails, keep the shiny side up and if you cant do that, polish both sides.

Hi All,
I just joined. We have a place in Moran and I just picked up a couple used sleds over Christmas and plan to use them around the area. I hope to get updates on snow and trail conditions before I make my many trips up this winter. We live near Green Bay but both grew up near Lansing. We love it up there and are looking forward to some great rides.

I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Rick and I live in Clinton Twp. I am currently sledless and have not ridden in Michigan at all. I have ridden SW NY state, Colorado, Utah, and NW Montana. I want to get back into riding in the winter. Our summers are taken up by boating on Lake St. Clair. I have only been to the UP once, but absolutely loved it.

Hi everyone!! I'm Dave, and I've ridden in many areas of Mich, but never in St. Ignace or straits area. So I figured it was time to change that. I'm coming up tomorrow, and bringing a friend from Kentucky to so snowmobiling (don't worry, he's an ex-Michigander and we've ridden many thousands of miles together).
I hear you guys keep those trails in top condition, now I just hope Mother Nature helps by giving you something to work with.
Take care!
