Burrrrrrr. Although still warmer then may areas, it is 3d this morning. Winds are strong, and windchill will be dangerous, please be careful exposed skin.
I personally took #6 out on the trail Friday night. This is the first time she has been on the trail all year. A bit stubborn for sure, neglected in the least would describe here attitude. Too cold, and the battery dead, so it took about an hour to get her started, and another hour to get warmed up. The trip down the RR Grade was brief, and she protested the neglect and elected to quit on me 4 times. I aborted the run after 2 miles, and brought her back to St. Ignace. My guess is there was water in the fuel. I could not drain things down because it was frozen, and of course, now I need to go and beg some garage space to thaw things out and get things checked. And people wonder why we need a heated building.
Trails - finally some good news. They are all ridable, and in OK shape. Some still have some thin areas, just understand that, and deal with it and you should have no major problems. There are no major bare spots out there, and the rocks are currently covered. The groomer is running on a limited basis, every other day, as that is all that is needed. There is not enough snow to make major moguls, and the grooming is leveling what there is out nicely. The extreme cold has allowed the traffic, and groomer to pack what we have down hard, and it is holding OK. There is still snirt in areas, that is all due to throttle jockeys. Take it easy on the thumb and preserve what we have.
All trails have at least 4" of snow on them, including the RR grade. The woods areas where protected from the winds have 6-12", and the corners may be a little icy. The only problem areas reported would be the short section of Brevort Lake Road shoulder, (low snow - ditch riding) and the West 2 miles of the Burma Grade, having a hard time keeping things leveled, and sand mixed with the snow is not helping. I should also mention that we are not grooming teh Cedarvill connector until their grooming starts for the season. If you are riding from Brevort Lake, North past where we park the Brevort Groomer, be aware that the loggers from last fall left a huge hole, just North of where the begins. The hole is 2 feet deep, and as big as a truck, we can't fill something that big with snow, just be aware it is there.
All in all, things are looking up around here. They are not perfect, but they are better then previous weeks. We have snow expected for the next 2 days, that can only help. I will post pics as soon as I find my camera! (I think I left it in the groomer Friday night)
