Well the little ol Lake effect found its way onto the Straits Trail System, that is for sure. Monday morning it was coming down at over 2"/Hr. The plows could not keep up, (and a couple ended up in the ditch) so the closed US-2, and I-75 down for several hours. Monday we got an additional 8-12 everywhere, and 12+ in the Moran area. Groomer Dave has been running daily out of St. Ignace since Saturday grading the base and panning things down. He should have the whole system covered today. Now remember this is lake effect, and 12" is packing down to more like 2-4" on the trail. Some rocks and bare spots are still a problem, ride with extreme caution. The word is that the base is freezing hard after the first panning, and will set the stage for great trails with a few more day like this. Forecast is for an additional 4-7 today, and more tomorrow, with a slight warmup by the weekend. Is this it? Have we actually begun a season on Dec 1? Time will tell I guess.

Here is a pic from Monday morning as groomer Dave was prepping to go out. I delivered some supplies and he was on the trail around 10am.
