I have to say with the cost of new machines rising as fast as they are, the reliability of a 4-stroke is awful appealing. (No 2-stroke oil to buy, they get good mileage. etc.) Especially for trail riders who don't see weight as a big issue.

Yamaha in my opinion has got the best snowmobile on the market today overall, especially with their new lineup for this year. Their motors are proven reliable and powerful. You don't need to buy 2-stroke oil, they will run well into 5 digits on the mileage and thats huge. Imagine putting on 50,000 miles or more on one of these motors. You can't do that with our current 2-stroke snowmobile engines.

My next snowmobile will no doubt be a Yamaha. The question remains which one?:cool2:

I just bought a 2001 Polaris SuperSport 550 Fan cooled. I'm pretty happy with it, but my friend's Indy 500 blows my skis off. I figured the extra 50 cc's would do more than it does, but I'm slowly learning that liquid cooled sleds are a lot quicker. Anyone out there got any tips or tricks on things I could do to speed mine up a little bit? It tops at about 75 now. I'd like to hit 90-95 with it, but I think I'm asking for a miracle.

you have a great sled it wont do 90 but you will not get left behind on the trail and your 550 fan will give you less prob. keep it ,if you want bigger and badder.it will make a great back up.good riding.

Well after now getting a few hundred miles on my new 600 mxz sdi rev I have to say that the fuel consumption and oil consumption are unbelieveable. I didn't think a sled could get that good of gas mileage. On top of all that the sled is just a pleasure to ride. It takes the trail very well although I don't care for the dual runner ski's. I think that will be the first thing I'm gonna change.

All in all I say GREAT JOB SKI-DOO

I'm pretty darn happy with my 2000 CAT ZL550ESR.

I am a VERY new rider, but do know I love:
1. The trails in St. Ignace and 2. My Sled. I think I would have given up the sport if we had kept riding below the bridge, or if I had to go without the Reverse option. My husband doesn't like the added weight, but at least he doesn't have to flip me around every time we get in a tight spot!

I don't do it often, but I have had it up past 90MPH.

We average 80 miles on a tank of gas. I have no idea if that is good, or not. (My husbands 600 is about the same).

I am a HUGE Wolverine fan, so it kills me to say it, but in this case, I have to say: "Go Green!"

Killer Bee, Thanks for the info. I got 8" of 60 degree woodys carbides on the front I just think having to buy 2 sets sucks for the difference you feel. I mean its now $190 for carbides and I don't think its that much better handeling.

As far as gas goes I can now easily go over 200 miles on a full tank. When I picked it up this year my friend that sold it to me said that I could get that kind of mileage and I called him a liar but I had to call back and apoligize. I mean my 01 700 couldn't go 100 miles on the same size tank.

The USI ski would get you back to only having to buy one set of carbides. The reason I said 6" was because these skis have areal deep center keel design.I run this set up with very little ski presure and can still carve though the turn.

I tend to agree with the 4-strokes. It seems that this will be the future of our sport. I am glad that I am a few years away from purchasing a new sled because I really want the bugs worked out of them and I know that the performance should really come close to 2 cycle by then. The Yamaha is definitely the superior engine now but I am not sold on the suspension yet. The cat suspension is awesome but I don't know if it will hit the 5 digit life span yet and I have not heard any positive opinions on the turbo either. As far as which sled is best, I'd have to give a politicians answer and say that all four manufacturers produce good sleds. It's a matter of ergonomics, performance, and economics.

i feel that the yamaha snowmobiles are the best ones out there. i ride a 1998 yamaha srx 700 and i love it, the throttle response is amazing and there is never a lack of power and speed. You cant go wrong with yamaha.

I have the 2006 Yamaha Attak. It is by far the best sled I have ever owned.

And I have owned: 93 Polaris 500 EFI, 95 Polaris XCR, 98 Yamaha SRX, 2002 Yamaha Viper, 2004 Arctic Cat ZL and now back to Yamaha because they changed the rear suspension from the previous models.

The ride is the most comfortable I've been on. The rider forward position makes it very comfortable. The motor is absolutely unbelievable..........smoth........and very strong.

I will NEVER own a 2 stroke.....ticking time bomb again! Reliability and comfort is what I'm all about.............and I finally found it!

Take one for a ride at one of Yamaha's scheduled shows.............you'll be purchasing one within a year! Yes.........they are that impressive.

I have a 2007 Yamaha Attak. I love the sled and it is my second 4 stroke. I don't think I'll go back to a 2 stroke. The extra weight from the 4 stroke is well balanced and and ergonomics are great. Lots of power and suspension rides good once setup to style etc. Windshields could be better though. :)

Thats funny! I used to ride an elans when I was a kid. It had these big round NY State Encon stickers on it.

As for the topic at hand, I've had them all and I gotta lean towards a Yamapopper. Although I do like the way my MXZ handles, I think Yamaha is more dependable & they are always in the lead when it comes to new tech.

That really suprises me! I have never experienced darting on mine. I don't have a whole lot of ski pressure turned on mine. I am running 96 studs and have six inch carbides on the outside and four inch carbides on the insides. Cost was alot cheaper due to the fact that I only had to buy one set and get to use the "extra" set of four inch as replacements! It has worked out well for me...might be something to try out?

We have 144 studs on all our machines with not a ton of ski pressure. I have changed the ski pressure back and forth. We have 8" on the outside and 4" on the inside. There is a reason Doo discontinued these skis. If I still have these sleds next year they will have different skis but kinda hoping I don't have them anymore;) Hope for a good year.

I have always rode Ski Doos but I think with the cost of sleds now on the rise I will jump ship to the Yamaha. We are all so used to replacing pistons and rings on these 2-strokes that we forget there is an option. 4-STROKE! Yamaha has been doing a great job on the 4-stroke for years. Ive been fighting it for years now and even bought the Ski Doo SDI to make myself happy but I have to give in. Yamaha is the way to go.
