I'm coming up this weekend (feb. 11th) and we're staying at the Birchwood in Evergreen Shores (right on the business loop). My question is what is the easiest way to hit the trail from the motel. Can I ride over I-75 or will I have to trailer to the west side of I-75 to hit trail #2. If I remember correctly it's Castle Rock rd. that goes over I-75, I just don't know if it's legal to ride, and if it's plowed down to the pavement on the edge. Thanks for any info anyone can provide and I can't wait to get home again.

You are not supposed to ride on the shoulder of State Street (Bus. I-75). That is the roadway you are talking about, Bus. I-75 starts at I-75 & us-2, and extends North through town to I-75 again, at Castle Rock.

That being said, I don't think anyone will bother you for riding across the overpass to get to castle rock road, just be smart about it. Will there be pavement, you bet. They salt/sand the bridges and MDOT roads all over around here, so you can bet on pavement to get across the bridge anyway, but then you will be OK.

You can trailer to castle rock road, quite easily if you want to. Just remember to cross the overpass, and then take the SECOND left, (the first will but you on I-75), Once on the access road, then you take the first right, that will take you up the hill on castle rock road.

Hope to see you this weekend.

Here is a bit of an update:

I was just out in Evergreen shores, and you have 2 options. Remember, you can not run on the shoulder of State Street, anywhere in town.

#1 if staying in Evergreen shores, I looks like you can run a back street to get to the North end of ES. You would then have to ride the shoulder, along the guardrail up and over I-75, take a left, then a right up the hill, and you are on Castle Rock. Technically not legal, but no one should bother you if you are trying to access the trail, just be careful.

#2 People are running back streets, and also up on the banks to head South. Once you get to the Airport, proceed to the South side, and around. Head Westerly along North Airport Rd (on the South side of the airport) This road takes you by the old hanger. This road turns South (now called boundary Rd) Follow boundary road all the way to the end. You will find yourself on to of the large hill at the I-75 overpass on the main trail. Head down the hill, and cross Cheeseman Rd, and you are on the trail. Drive courteously on boundary Rd, 2 local police officers live on that road.

Remember, St. Ignace likes snowmobilers. Be curious, always go WITH traffic, and don't do anything stupid and you will be left alone.

Thanks for the additional information, I appreciate it. We'll be up Saturday staying through Tuesday. I certainly don't mind trailering but it's alot easier when you can ride right from the motel. See you on the Trails!
