I see you are from Rockwood. I am from S.Rockwood. How often do you go to the St. Ignace area?

Hey Kenny...yes we are neighbors! I've only ridden in St Ignace once and that was purely to take the ice bridge to the island. We do most of our riding between St Helen, West Branch, Houghton Lake, and Meredith. Occasionally, we ride around Harbor Springs and up to Mackinaw City. I have to admit that the trip from St Ignace and around the island was one of the best sledding trips that we have ever taken. It seems that we are always talking about that one! My best friend and I are heading up to Newberry Sunday morning for a week of riding. Yes...we will be watching the Super Bowl from the U.P. even though the game is 15 miles from my house! Oh well, we need to take advantage of the snow in this crazy Michigan winter.

Well we must be neighbors. We go to St.Ignace almost every weekend. We are heading back up this Friday but are coming home early sunday as we are going to the game. My grandma lives in St.Helen and my other grandma lives in Houghton Lake but I never go ride there. We only ride in the U.P. and this year only out of St. Ignace. Make sure you post next time you are heading up and maybe we can hook up and ride.

Kenny, where about do you live in S. Rockwood since you list Newport as your home? Why don't you ride in St Helen? There is some great riding starting in St Helen and heading into the Ogemaw trail system. They really maintain the trails well! We usually head up to Luzerne to catch a good lunch at Ma Deeter's.
On a seperate note, are you old enough to remember when we could ride around this part of the state?:woohoo:

Labattman, I live on Chinavare rd and one side of the rd is Newport and one side is S.Rockwood. I live just off Labo.
I just don't care to ride in the lower anymore. After you have rode the straits trail system and hung around the town they just treat everyone so good its hard not to go back. Then you can connect to the Chippewa and Tasa systems and they are both great also so we just head that way now. we use to ride down here and spent many nights in Ma Deeters and also Marilyns in St helen.
As far as riding around here in the past years we have had some good rides around here but anymore you have to be ready to go right when its done snowing cause it doesn't seem to last very long anymore. Where do you usually ride around here?

Kenny,
It's been many, many years since I have ridden down here except the few rare occasions when I have purchased a sled and their happens to be a little snow in the streets to ride. I know what you are saying about the quality of riding in the lower vs the upper. It's hard to justify the extra travel time though. Weekends go by so fast when you have to spend so much time on the road. It's only 200 miles door to door to our cottage south of West Branch. I am sure that after next week spending 6 days riding the U.P. I will feel the same way you do.

Labattman, I'm sure you will love it after 6 days. man I wish that was me this next week. As far as the short weekends it takes me about 4 1/2 hours from my house to my house in St. ignace with no stops so its really not that bad of a drive. Once you are there it is well worth the drive.

Takes us about 3 hours to da bridge. You are right, the longer drive is worth it :thumb:
