Is there an "official" or at least reliable source for information on the ice bridge to the island? I understand that nobody will stick their neck out and say that it is safe but does anybody check the thickness at different times? We have made the trip a few years ago and I will be heading back to the UP next week and was wondering about the conditions with all of the warm weather.
Thanks,
Scott

There is ZERO ice on the Straits. Nice whitecaps yesterday though :sorry2:
I think the only way to the Island this winter will be by Jet Ski :crying:

I will post when (or if) the treeline goes up, and people are crossing.
We will not post ice conditions though. As Ron said, it is easy now - no ice at all.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I didn't really expect to see ice but was curious about the conditions. Who does put the trees out anyway?

A few island residents, it changes from year to year, and there is no set standard for "safe" ice, that is why you have to check locally when you get hear about ice conditions, and then take a chance when you go.
